Just watched the highlights and didn't see one balloon, or any evidence of popped ones even.

I agree, looks like maybe 2000 actually got blown up, by the time the players came out though there were a lot at peoples feet as well.

Even that looks pitiful.
What happened to the balloons? Having told my mates that 9000 of the buggers were being handed out I would guess the reality was about a quarter of that sum.
Not whinging as Bozza and others did make the effort to get them around, I blew about 10 up, but where were the rest?

8/9000 were handed out, I can assure you of that.
I think the problem might have been that too few people took them. You'd think I was collecting on behalf of the Jehovahs the way some people reacted to being offered balloons.
And those that took them, tended to take quite big handfuls in a "ooooooh, there's something free, let's see how many I can get away with" kind of way. My guess is they got into the ground, blew up 2 or 3 and then didn't do a great deal with the other 50-100 they'd grabbed. I imagine a fair few people have pocketfuls of balloons left over, if they didn't just dump them at some point in the day.
The effect seemed ok, but I agree it wasn't as striking as hoped for, but it certainly wasn't due to the lack of effort. And it certainly wasn't due to lack of balloons handed out.
