Bale - looks good, how long before he moves on to a bigger club?

By the look of this pic, released this morning, it looks as though the lure of joining up with his former manager at QPR has proved a little too tempting for him. Not a great move (imho) and he doesn't exactly look too chuffed about it himself.

In fact, I would say that Cazorla, Mata, Silva, Van Persie and Suarez are all better players currently.

The first three were already playing in Spain and the big 2 Spanish clubs passed them up. I don't think either would pass up Bale if he came onto the market.

Personally, if money was no object then the only players in ther Prem that come close to Bale are RVP, Rooney and Aguero.

Cazorla turned Madrid down when he went to Malaga, Mata wanted to come to England and City paid Silva far more than Barca and Madrid wanted to. They also had players who were very similar to Mata, Silva and Cazorla already so didn't push the boat out, Bale is obviously a very different player and both clubs see him as a left back rather than an attacker.

I give you Aguero, he is quality but I certainly wouldn't put Rooney in the same class as any of the other players mentioned.

Bale is not a long-term option for left-back. The reason he was rubbish with Spurs at the start is that he was played left back and wasn't as nearly as good as Ekotto. It was only when he got the left midfield gig and returned to full fitness that he started tearing teams up.

Secondly, the Big 2 always push the boat out if they feel the player is good enough. The 5 most expensive transfers in football history involve players going to the Big 2 (Ronaldo, Zidane, Ibrahimovic, Kaka and Figo).

As for Rooney, his performance for England may have been ordinary but for Man Utd he's been a major factor in their dominance and 131 goals in 258 appearances over 8 years is awesome. He would walk into any team in England and I've no doubt he'd get plenty of game time with Real Madrid.

Were I a Spurs fan I'd be very disappointed if he were to leave for another club in England.

I think Spurs have shown they're getting up there with the big boys in the Premier League and have given Bale a taste of the Champions League already. I can't see Spurs would need to sell either, so the situation, presumably, would only arise if Bale himself said he wanted out for bigger and better things. If that became the case I think the club would be wise to encourage him to ply his trade abroad (i.e. in Spain), suggesting that that's how he'd be measured a true great. Either that or let Man City pay stupid money for him and make it patently obvious that their wealth puts them in a completely different league.

Chelsea could afford him but I think their internal struggles make them look a less attractive option. Arsenal could never afford him or offer him a chance at trophies. Manchester United could probably afford him but aren't a vintage side and it will take several years before they're truly competing on the world stage again. They'll finish higher than Spurs, but the gulf between the two clubs is minimal so I'd see it as an almost sideways move.

Therefore it's Man City, with all their ludicrous riches, Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Mourinho is a known fan. For me Real seems the most likely option. Less likely to upset the fans than selling him to a rival club in England too

I don't get to watch Spurs often but have read Bale is very highly rated, with potential to be near Ronaldo or Messi in terms of effectiveness when he's a little older. Do you agree and is he as good as people say he is?

No. Nowhere near that good.

Who cares?

Evidently you, as you've clicked on this thread & posted in it.

I'm not denying he's a diver, because he's nearly as bad as Suarez. But on this occasion he didn't actually appeal for a free kick. Sometimes when you're running at the pace he runs at, it's not hard to make you go down.

Bale is incredible. The technique of his left foot is like nobody I have ever seen, and I watch a lot of football. He is just incredible, and will get better and better. If he goes to Man Utd they'll dominate world football for the next decade, with him one side and dare I say it, Zaha the other...

Talk about dangerous on the break.

Was going to sell him to Ajax and Jol for a few million.

Benny went off to the African Cup of nations so had to keep him, in Harry's mind he made him

Is it me or has his free kick technique changed? Has started to hit straight through the ball rather than curling it, a bit like Ronaldo. Obviously not for me to criticise either, but I've never understood why such a technique is more likely to lead to a goal

Bale went off the mark a bit towards the end of last season and i don't think he has played to the potential he can do so far this term. Most definitely has the potential to be a world class player though.
He's already a world class player.

The value of Bale to leave spurs would have to be around 40 million plus as to spurs he is worth more than that.

Bale is the difference between Spurs finishing 4th and 6th. 50 million euros I reckon.

It would have to be a large fee as Levy milks any deal and is good at playing hard ball. Really any of the cashed up clubs that are prestigious could potentially lure him (Man C/U, Chelsea, Real, Barca). I don't see the attraction of the Italian league but he is admired there for sure. If I had to name 2 it would be Barca / Real but I'm not sure how he would fit into a team with Ronaldo.

Its hard to know what Bale himself would want, it is said during his Southampton Academy days he supported Arsenal but I'd say that's well and truly beaten out of him by now and that's just not a move that's even a remote possibility for pretty much every reason. I'd like to see him stay at Tottenham, but if they don't qualify for the Champions League the temptation will be there to instigate a move. Despite being a pretty appalling diver he strikes me as a good guy that would be reasonably loyal and not get involved in too much underhanded tactics. Of all the players I admire over the years its the Gerrards and Le Tissier's who really earn my respect but loyalty to that extent is pretty rare these days.

I guess if you sort of toe poke it it swerves and dips more?

Real in the summer for a smidge under 40 mil. And I'd back him to be a massive hit. Less physical league, better passers and more protection from refs. Bale would annihilate.

Er he IS world class & the most valuable player on the EPL currently

Seeing as by the end of the season (and especially for the Palace fixture) our crowds will only be 4k shy of the attendances at Shite Fart Lane maybe he might see us as a club with more potential than Tottenscum Hotspunk and sign for BHA?
