I don't know the scientific, animal welfare, or economic arguments well enough to decide.

Can anyone provide a balanced view of the reasons for/against the cull?

To be fair, neither do I. But i know a few farmer types who swear by the cull so voted in favour. Their opinion may be slightly biased.

I've read a fair bit about it. The scientific evidence all pretty much suggests that culling won't work, some suggest's it'll make it worse. They did a ten-year study on it, which suggested vaccination was the way forward but the new government has ignored it apparently. Economically it's debatable as well.

Can they only cull the 'complete' versions rather than the furry animals?

How could they even think about culling Ruperts best mate

What are they going to vaccinate, The Cows or the Badgers?

The Irish study wasn't that well run and so the evidence was flawed. badger culling may work but the big worry is that it will just drive badgers into new 'bovine TB-free' regions. I think most people effected by this just want the government to make a decision and do something as BTB is spreading anyway.

I misheard this on the news early yesterday due to my state of not-quite-wokenupishness. I got very confused as to why the Govt. were proposing coloured badges.

Scotland has apparently no TB so whatever they are doing must work ...............so why not do this?

Bovine TB can be pretty devastating for an affected farm, but I'm really not sure a cull is the answer. Theres been calls for one for a long time and I think the Givt has finally given in as it can't be arsed (or afford) to fund a vaccination program or test. Whilst I don't have any moral problems with a cull, I hope that it is properly regulated, and undertaken under license, rather than getting any old hick out for a night of fun with a shotgun.

the government are paying out fortunes in compensation for TB why can't they use that money to vaccinate the cattle or is that not possible?
