Bad breath dilemma

I would just write him a letter telling him his breath stinks and leave it on his desk, he is hardly going to ask everyone who wrote the letter

Possible issue is that this bloke is fat, so an anonymous letter may be a double kick in the balls for him. He is also quite ugly (I say this even though I am no oil painting) so there could be a 'bullying' card at play here.

there's this guy at work who gets the train and i dread it at the end of the day because sometimes he asks for a lift to the station. No problem usually, as the station is more or less on my route home. The big issue here though is that this bloke's breath seriously stinks like he has gargled on cat sh1t or something.
I only drive a small motor and the dense stench is inescapable and very offensive. Not sure what to do cos he's a nice guy. I've tried offering him extra strong mints but he always declines. Is there a polite way of informing him of his sewerage breath?
tell his Mrs to wash her gash
