Indeed, currently being called a load of crap (or similar terminology) by a Cambridge professor on 5 Live.

I like this quote from the article.

One study funded by as yet unknown does not mean meat is safe, it’s reckless to even publish it IMO.

I remember when they said that cigarettes don’t cause cancer too.

She said: "The message people need to hear is that we should be eating no more than three portions of red meat a week and avoiding processed meat altogether.

"We stand by our rigorous research of the last 30 years and urge the public to follow the current recommendations on red and processed meat."

Tim Key, professor of epidemiology and deputy director of the cancer epidemiology unit at the University of Oxford, said: "There's substantial evidence that processed meat can cause bowel cancer - so much so that the World Health Organisation has classified it as carcinogenic since 2015.

I’m delighted.

When I heard scientists had concluded that bacon was bad for you, I thought I was going to have to give up science.

so basically expert refuting another expert to protect their reputation and research. the evidence is being questioned on grounds its too broad and not statistically significant. the article cites the research from Cancer Research UK, that shows 20% increase risk, but this is from such a low number, is it meaningful?
