On the other hand, he could be out of work come July. He'll probably get work then - but only what somebody's prepared to offer him, which may be a lot less than the inflated amount he's probably got in his head, now that his agent's filled his head with ideas that the top six are gagging to sign him. Which they're not (although after a successful 18 months with us in the PL, they might).

I think he has a couple of years on his contract... He may feel he can score another dozen this year and get a better move in the summer, who knows. But I agree with the principle, having not signed elsewhere, any offer we made previously may now be more attractive.
