Met a few in town post match and were class

Very knowledgable football fans who said they were surprised to get 3 points and felt we were decent. Said we would be welcomed in Athens but did mention their belief that we were left wing like them!! Said they have a great relationship with Marseille but we’re expecting a lot of trouble with Ajax.

Also didn’t seem happy with the lack of bars in brighton open past 1am, seemed to think Athens a lot better

I thought they were great. What I really liked was the bald bloke with the long sleeved yellow top who was down at the front and orchestrated a lot of the chanting. Forget naff drums but you're going to need a pretty bold confident ( not pissed up! ) North stander to take on that role.

Their fans were absolutely magnificent throughout, what a noise, football is just different in other countries isn’t it? I love this club but the passion some of those AEK fans have for their club is just madness.

Some say it’s cringe and over the top but I have nothing but respect for them, incredible support, no English teams support comes close to that.

Proper foreign ultras are a different breed to anything we have here though. They are (generally - not in all cases) a bit off their head and show the kind of passion that boils over into unsavory/ugly scenes very easily if provoked. Makes for a very loud atmosphere in the ultras section but not the most welcoming atmosphere either. Impressive though, of course.

Passion for football is just shown in a different way here, for example the fact you can see 15/20k sometimes in a 4th tier game, the fact that big clubs still get huge attendance when in the third tier, hundreds/a few thousand turning up at 7th tier games. You don't get that pretty much anywhere - if anywhere - else. Germany comes a bit close.

In the stands, generally fans are very reactive to what's going on on the pitch and respond in that way. Just different! And far more middle class than abroad, which makes a difference too ha.

Spoke to a few in The Basketmakers pre-match. Nice chaps. All felt they were going to lose, but I rather just suggested that this was a mental strategy - which they agreed. I think that they secretly felt they could do a number on us.

They agreed that the whole UEFA system of bussing fans to games, while reducing risk of trouble also creates tensions. After all, Albion v Athens is not exactly Milan v Marseille.

Let’s be honest, it’s what Palace, to their credit, are trying to do.

We take the pi$$ out of our friends up the road, but they do manage to make more noise than we do. Parts of the WSU were driving me spare last night. MAKE SOME NOISE! One woman even turned round and tutted at me. FFS!

they weren’t, they were doing it to some of their own fans on the shelf of the West/South corner who were reciprocating. There was quite a gathering of them up there.

When we did a pre-season tour in Portugal, PSG had a girl leading their fans during our friendly with them. She was very good.
