Away fan sat next to me AGAIN. Unlike others teams these were two local lads but one was a Brighton fan. But yet again it spoilt my day. I will be in touch with the club Monday because I'm just fed up with it.
I completely agree with your sentinments, however if ever there was a day to sit next to a Liverpool fan yesterday WAS THE DAY!!!!!!!

A Leeds fan I know is a member of every club in London plus the Albion, he can't get a ticket via Leeds so buys direct from the home club.
Not saying it's right but if you want to follow your team what options do you have.
He could always move back to Leeds :moo:

With that incident I share your annoyance, but im not sure what the club could have done. Local lads so would have Brighton postcodes when ordering the tickets, and if one of them was a brighton fan you'd presume he bought the tickets. So unless the guy has walked in wearing a liverpool shirt, what can the club do?

This thing of away fans in the home ends is annoying, but when you're a medium/small sized club playing a big club its inevitable, and will happen all over the country at Palace/Southampton/Fulham/Brentford etc. Its not a Brighton specific thing.

The club should, and do, implement procedures to minimize this, but unfortunately it will still happen. If an away fan for whatever reason wants to buy a ticket in the home end and complies with all the requirements to do so its going to be impossible for the club to prove they're are in fact not an Albion fan until its too late.

Obviously you dont want to see away fans in the home end, but if all Albion fans have had their fair opportunity to buy tickets and said fan spends the game quietly sitting on their hands (and doesnt wear their team colours) then it doesnt bother me too much. Its money in the clubs pocket. If you see away fans in the home end, and they're causing trouble, best thing to do is contact a steward or text that anonymous number thats in the match programme.

The club can make it easier and cheaper for Brighton fans to pass tickets on to known other brighton fans. As it is the cheapest and easiest way is the exchange which can be bought by anyone.

The only way you could enforce it is tracking people’s purchase history, and if they only ever buy tickets to the (e.g. Liverpool) game every season then maybe that could be looked into. Or impose a “you can’t buy a big 6 ticket without purchasing and attending games against other teams” rule. But beyond that it’s almost impossible to police.

As others have said, if they don’t behave like dicks (which was the justified complaint against a lot of the Arsenal fans) then who cares, I just sing louder if they’re near me and celebrate a bit harder when we score / win.

The main thing I would like to see the club have a zero tolerance with is away fans in the home ends that wear their own team colours. I heard stories of some being turned away at the turnstyle, but have heard other stories of fans brazenly wearing their team shirt in the home end. Seems some stewards are prepared to enforce it, and others not. If you're going to contact the club then this is something Paul Barber could easily fix with a message to whoever manages the stewarding.

When we got thrashed 5-1 at Anfield in the cup, loads of BHA fans in Liverpool stands including me and many wearing colours. Scousers didn’t mind, good day out.
They're completely used to it! But I know a few liverpool ST holders and they hate what daytrippers, neutrals and tourists do to the atmosphere. Especially on 3pm sat kick offs. We saw it during the 3-3. The 'famous' anfield atmosphere was non existent.

There needs to be a postcode ban to begin with, anyone that lives in close proximity to the away team with no purchase history with other clubs should be banned, seen other clubs do this.
That might prevent about 1% of away fans (ironically, the 'true' fans who support their local club) but the other 99% with Sussex / Surrey / London postcodes will be unaffected.

Edit: Had two away fans in front of me in ESU - they were quiet, well-behaved, caused me (nor anyone else, as far as I could tell) any problems. I did chuckle that they missed our first goal(still on the concourse). and left swiftly after our 3rd :)
