[Albion] Away fans in Home seats

I sat in with Millwall fans for our cup quarter-final and felt very worried.
I sat with Brentford fans on Saturday and felt very relaxed.
No surprises on either front really.

I’d be a hypocrite to say I don’t like it, I’ve been in the away stands for more games than I remember, I get sussed quite often as it is so difficult to get enthusiastic when they score and even harder to not react when we do. Not being lairy and obvious is a pre requisite for fans in the home stands when they support the opposition. I have had some right CJTCs around me at the Amex but most were just fans who reign in any ott celebrations or standing up chanting. Watched some quite unpleasant scenes when we played Palace a few years ago and they had loud mouthed dicks in the home stand

There are often away fans in the 1901, most are OK, even if they are wearing scarves.

First game I ever went to was Albion vs Palace in the South Stand at the Goldstone in 1975ish, 30k plus crowd and quite a few Palace in there, no problems whatsoever, even though we won 2-0

We have all been away fans in the home end several times. We stay quiet and don't wear colours.

I have been in home ends before as an away fan and when I was younger attracted a certain amount of ire. Now I think anyone in a home stand should just keep quiet. The Everton game had a chap who was an Everton fan in the WSU. He over-celebrated their opener and to be honest it was annoying. The most ridiculous thing I heard at a football match though was a West Ham fan in the Brighton, who complained I was shouting too loud.

Got tickets for the Wife, Evertonian for our home games against those, and for a few mates on occasion but they all know the score and were perfectly respectful, same as me the couple of times I've been in the home end when we've been away. Don't see it as a major issue unless someone acts like a complete c**t and winds up the home support

I’ve been in the home end at Arsenal. My mate just made everyone around him away and they were most accommodating. I took some wolves fans to a game at the Amex. I wrong presumed they would be pro us

After Chelsea battered everyone down at the Goldstone, our little group of fans decided that the safest place in the return game ( which I think was an evening game) at the Bridge, was actually in the shed and so we went in there.

With all the trouble up the other end, it was a very good move!

It kicked off in there in the second half, when a couple of Millwall fans decided to take on the whole shed….it was at that point, about 15 minutes to go we decided to leave as it was very ugly in there! And one of our group decided to get a bit mouthy with one guy and we grabbed him and left.

Do you think this is a fair enough thing to do?

I - like many of you no doubt - get tapped up every so often, by fans of the "big" club usually, for any spares.

I've never said yes, but given my experiences in the North, WSL and WSU, others clearly have and do.

Fair enough, no big deal, get over it, we've all done it?

Or is it a DISC RACE and an OUTRAGE?

The "£45" ticket transfer fee should reduce this a little at The Amex this season...

Done it at Palace and West Ham going back many years now, not an enjoyable watch but never taken the piss.

I had a diehard Swansea girlfriend (and yes its true about Welsh girls) so was in the Swans end both home and away at Withdean and the Vetch. Plus been to Liverpool which was hilarious as I thought the scouser behind me was going to explode with a torrent of helium filled 'eh 'eh' 'eh like Harry Enfield on speed. I tried to not shake with laughter and get a kicking.

none of these experiences are like being with the fans and I would rather not (although the brownie points earned with the Welsh girl was worth it!)

We need someone to fill out the ESL for the TV cameras on Sunday. Make the ESL the away end and give away fans the South as well?

Not on live telly, and we’ll be last on MOTD2 when everyone has gone to sleep anyway.

Topically I had a Leicester fan and his mate sat in front of me in the North stand last time they were here and fans allowed. Assume bought via ticket exchange as season ticket holder usually.

The bloke was a helmet and celebrated goals and penalty award.

Told him to behave due to where he was, but he told me I was pathetic and to grow up.

I thought everyone knew to sit on your hands when in with the "wrong" fans.

The weekends tennis went off into an 'American's classless with sport' tangent.
I don't have an issue with that - they just don't play international sport so it's not really surprising they don't know how to behave with international sport.


No segregation is the aspect of US sport I can't get my head around.

On the face of it opposing fans side by side should be applauded, esp by a yogurt knitter like myself.
Like every other Albion fan at no point have my sandals been in contact with an opposition fan.
Other than roughed up a bit from running away, they have remained pristine.

But the thought of standing shoulder to shoulder with someone going ape-pooh celebrating a touchdown, home run, in-hoop thing goes far beyond my comfort zone.
I have no idea how they do it.

I used to do this yearly with my Nottingham Forest brother in law .... he would source tickets for the Forest Games and i would reciprocate at the Amex. Wasn't great sat in the Trent end when Casper treated the ball like a hot potato ( 2-2 Draw ) .... and wasn't the best idea to go batshit crazy when Ulloa scored that special last minute into the playoffs goal ... especially when i was in the West Bridgford end in the tier above the away supporters

We had some Citeh fans among us when they won the title.
One of them was great, tears in his eyes yet sat on his hands.
One muppet had an eBay fake BHA shirt on, so faded it looked all white, who was a bit of a knob but live and let live.

Been in home ends at Chelsea, Millwall, Gillingham, Southend, Cambridge, Aldershot, Cardiff, Palace, Bury and Arsernal for different reasons tbf.

Done it at Millwall (oo er, missus. OK it was the family enclosure, so only the over 5s were effing and seeing). Shook my head sadly as Forster scored the winner. All lovely.
Colchester. I did get a little emboldened and may have commented in the general direction of Scott Mcgleish. Got a few scowls. I don't think they liked him much themselves.
Reading, when we thought we'd got an injury time winner. About 20 of us (all unlnown to one another) leapt up, to recieve instant mockery from the locals. No bother.
Arsenal. Behaved myself (no reason to not). Woman next to me turned out to be a Brighton fan. We conducted ourselves discretely.
Probably a few others.
Edit: Leicester when Adams was managing them. Watched the second half from the concessions cave for reasons I can't recall (the cold, I suspect).

Any away fan being gobby in the home end deserves pelters and removal by the stewards (or by the testicles if stewards are unavailable). Otherwise, couldn't care less.

There were a large number of Millwall fans in the North for the play off semi, as I recall.

There was a fair group of us behind them. Beardo sent in some of his friends to keep apart. Some of the guys I was with were seriously not nice

I have - been to West Ham twice to watch us get our customary points there. Let's fact it though, we're not a big draw for West Ham fans and there really were plenty of seats available.

I'd say there was a code of conduct among football fans though. Spare ticket? Try and sell to other home fans rather than away fans. If you do end up selling to away fans, they are welcome/tolerated as long as they're not utter gobshites or complete bell-ends.

This exactly. Did it at Everton. I kept my trap shut and didn't make a tit of myself and it was fine.

Some of the nicest fans as well.
