Yesterday on LBC a London tube driver called up to angrily point out their job, in terms of expertise, is far more akin to that of a commercial airline pilot, than a bus driver owing to the number of passengers they carry! That was his attempt at justifying his nearly £50k salary and perks! Greedy FOOL!!!

yeah, because piloting one of the most complex devices man has ever created is the same as pushing a lever and checking the doors a shut properly. something they fail at on an alarming number of occasions. sooner they switch to fully automated the better.

I've never really understood why train drivers get paid so well. Accepted you may get the occasional 'jumper' but I would guess that this does not happen to most drivers in their whole career. Many other workers face more stress on a daily basis.

This...

A train/tube train runs on RAILS and can only go or stop along that route. A commercial airliner FLIES through the air, and has complex weather and navigation to contend with for starters.

Surely driving a tube train is no different when the the train is full or empty?! So using the number of passengers as justification is a joke. Go, stop, open doors, close doors, go, stop [repeat]. In fact driving a train has to be a lot less responsibility than driving a bus or HGV. No pedestrians, cyclists, motorists etc to contend with at all.

My dad is a pilot, and a plane can now taxi to the runway, take off, fly to the destination, land, and taxi to the gate all AUTOMATICALLY. They have to do a manual landing once in 6 flights or something just to keep their skills up, but most of the time they just sit there incase something goes wrong.

Fair enough. But if something does go wrong in a plane the pilot has a lot more to do! You can't just pull on the emergency brake and brace yourself/close your eyes and wait for it to stop...

Lawyers £44k? Garbage. Difficult to take that list seriously im afraid. It massively underestimates some job salaries.

The survey appears to just have just homed in on salaries of qualified staff lower down the levels, for example, excluding directors/partners/members and associates at Solicitors or Vets, thus excluding 100,000's on big money. Including these would in many professions bring the averages up massively.

Tube drivers currently £46,000, going to £52,000 in negotiated deal over 4 years.

And that for a 35 hour week and 43 days holiday a year!!

It takes a whole 16 weeks to train as a tube driver!

Power to the people Bob!!

Chicken feed when compared to being a cop. 55k a year to eat donuts and hassle black people. One wonders why Bushy hasn't applied yet.

No great surprise - I've heard all about this Overtime business.......

Officers above the rank of sergeant don't get paid overtime.

Shouting 'brace brace' as you plummet to earth does not seem much to me.

Sad thing is in this race to the bottom, defeatist country of ours, some desperate fucker would probably do it for that.
By the way,how did you come to that figure?

£25k is about the average salary for what is basically a piss easy job. I think that says a lot about train drivers when they think the UK average salary is desperate. Greedy fuckers.
