Average attendance next season

For two seasons in the 'glory years' - 1977/78 and 1979/80 - we were the 12th best supported club in the country, ahead of teams like Everton and Sunderland. According to Tim Carder's book, it was in 77/78 (in the equivalent of the Championship) that we achieved our highest ever average home league attendance - 25,262 (79/80 was 24,795).

Don't think we'll break that next season, but I wonder what the average attendance will be? Last year it was about 1.5k more than the total number of season ticket holders (so 18.5k plus away fans and match-day tickets, minus ST absentees). In which case, if we do sell out of season tickets we should be looking at around 24k next year.

Could be slightly less as we have lost several southern teams, such as SCC, Pompey and West Ham, who would normally sell-out their allocation.

Still, an average anywhere near 24,000 would be superb...

I think it'll be about 23k what with no-shows etc.

Also, how well we're doing will influence things as well, probably moreso in the 2nd half the season. If we're doing V well then 24k sounds right, 21/22k if we're fighting relegation so 23k for similar performance as this year sounds right to me....

If we had a season like Southampton just had (top 2 all season), then we would average around 26,000 just like they did. I reckon it'll be a 24,000 average gate for us next season.
