Australia have named there squad for the up coming ashes in england this summer .

There is no place for Andrew Symonds in the squad.
The full Australia squad is: Ricky Ponting (c), Michael Clarke (vc), Stuart Clark, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, Phillip Hughes, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Graham Manou, Andrew McDonald, Marcus North, Peter Siddle, Shane Watson.

We can win this. Get Ponting, Clarke & Hussey out and the rest aren't all that. Bowling attack doesn't worry me at all.

So, Hughes who scored two hundreds in his second test and has already scored more than 800 runs for Middlesex this season won't be a problem?

If I was an Australian selector I would go with:

Hughes
Katich
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
North
Haddin
Lee
Johnson
Siddle
Hauritz

They may try and prise Watson into that line up to add a 5th bowler although North can act as a 2nd spinner as can Clarke so I think they will go with 4 front line bowlers. Johnson has come on a lot and will be a real threat. He is also set to be very annoying batting at 9 as he can hit the ball and he scores quickly.

Their weakness is the openers. Hughes looks the business but is inexperienced. The likes of Freddie have the wood on Katich so if he fails they don't have great options as back up openers.

I've seen a bit of Siddle and am not overly impressed although he has genuine pace. Hauritz is an average spinner.

We should be looking at producing spinners wickets and play Swann and Monty as their spinning options are limited.

And no, we should not take on Symonds as our overseas. Keep him in fine form ready for when Watson inevitably breaks down injured? I think not.

Staurt Clark is the bowler to watch, has been injured for a bit so not been playing. When fit I rate him as good as McGrath, bowls fast and staight.

FFS ! are you 14 ?..... The Aussies ALWAYS up their game when they play us The Aussies are still rebuilding a little after McGrath and Warnes retirement but they still have mre than enough bowling to give us trouble and the "engine room" of the batting order will produce.

symonds is a massive threat so without him the ozzies have lost a great talent...still surprised they still havent given nathan bracken a shot at test cricket as he is potentiall y the best one day bowler in the world.

What's the latest on Flintoff?

A bowling attack of Anderson, Broad, Flintoff, Onions and Swann can damage the Aussies but I fear without Freddie it could lack a bit of fire. Broad and Anderson can control their agression now but I still think we need someone like Flintoff to really get a head of steam up. If Flintoff is not fit do we go in with just the three seamers and Swann with Collingwood and Bopara doing a bit of bowling? Flintoff, to me, is the key again. He can bat at 6 and get the lefties out when needed and he can also act as a strike bowler. The other three seamers can do the hard work and Freddie can be used sparingly. Swann is the obivous pick as the spinner and I don't see any reason, unless there is a suitable pitch, to play Panesar.

Oooh, innit exciting.

I wouldn't consider Monty at all, Swann has proved he is as good a spinner and can bat pretty well and of course his fielding is better than Monty's. Bye bye for now Monty untill you learn more variation, know when to attack a batsman and when to try to contain. Get back to county cricket and start getting 5 fors again and you will be considered.

Monty could well play at Cardiff.

We should be preparing wickets that take spin, as for the first time in years we have the better spin options than the Aussies.

It's funny isn't it, the names in the Australian bowling attack used to strike fear into batsmen all around the world.

Now you just go "meh".

(Though no doubt I shall soon learn their names:lolol:)

Edits: I didn't notice Brett Lee in there

Some of us are old enough to remember the bad days of Australian touring teams, names like Thomson, Lillie, oh of course Terry Alderman and that fat unknown Victorian Shane Warne....plenty were household names by the September of that particular year....
