Ok, So I've finally decided that the main body of my travelling once I LEAVE uni, with my mate, shall take in the wonderful sights of AUSTRALIA and drinking plenty of Golden ICE COLD Nectar...Fosters. Bound to taste better over in Aus surely ?

Anyhoo, we are looking to go for 2-3 months, and are aiming at going to spend our time on the EAST coast...Has anyone been before, lived there, still lives there or knows a bit about it that they could gimme some info on where to visit, what to see, where to stay etc etc etc....

Don't all rush at once tho :)

They don't actually drink Fosters in Australia apart from a couple of tourist places. I spent 3 months in Sydney followed by a couple of months on the east coast. All the backpackers do basically the same stuff between Sydney and Cairns and it's amazing how often you bump into people you've met before. Things I recommend are Fraser Island, sailing in the Whitsundays, Surfers Paradise is quite good if you look something similar to a Med resort although it is a bit overpriced. Sydney is a good city with plenty to do, Brisbane is rubbish, not worth visiting and Byron Bay is a bit overrated.

Having said all that I agree with Kinky, go to New Zealand it's far better!

Go to Perth and travel up the west coast - I travelled around the whole of Australia and found the West Coast my favourite and agree you will bump into alot of people you have laready met.
VB and Tooeys(spelling unsure of) are the most popular beer

There is an amazing wombat farm just to the south of Sydney (WombatWorld). Although these creatures are natural burrowers, the staff there train them to nest in transparant fruit-shaped perspex boxes suspended from the ceiling of the enclosure. If you go on a Tuesday, they allow visitors to feed bark to the younger wombats. The more mature ones are known to be fiercely territorial and will aggressively defend their transparant fruit-shaped perspex boxes. I did manage to befriend one of the elders though (Bronwyn) while I was there, and have since sponsored her. I receive a photo and a small dried stool of hers through the post every other month, along with a progress report.

Very rewarding and highly recommended.

Badger & Kinky are a couple of CLOWNS. East coast of Oz is far superior to NZ in every way. You have to go out to enjoy it though fella's

You've hardly been out in New Zealand though and certainly haven't done any backpacking stuff.

Don't get me wrong I've done the east coast of Australia twice and had a great time on both occasions, I just prefered New Zealand as a country.

What he said, Altho he is still a clown - a rather sexy clown.

New Zealand is more my sort of plave, adventure sports and many ways to kill yourself by jumping out of planes etc.
Also I find the type of backpacker that goes to New Zealand is more into seeing stuff than living the Ibiza life in a different town each night.

If you're going for a while definately go to New Zealand. Christchurch is a must, a lovely "English" style city...without the chavs.

Personally being an Aussie i wouldn't waste my money and holidays comming here.

It's overated.

Go to South America or Canada.

But if you really must come here. :D

Fremantle in WA is a great place to kick back drink grog and perv on hot chicks.

Probably worth checking out Kalgoolie the big mining town to see how massive the mining operations are.

In South Australia there's lots of nice wine regions but the best thing to go do in South Oz is a Great White Shark tour.

If you go to Qld the great barrier reef is worth checking out, especially some of the day snorkelling trips.

Head up to the Northern Territory. Though i'd Give Ayres Rock a miss as its not that good and it's a bit of a dive in Alice Springs.

Go to Darwin instead and go check out kakadu and see live Crocs on the rivers through tours.

If you head to Tassie only go to Hobart as it's the only place i'd recommend.

Melbourne is the best city in Australia, and Heasville Sanctuary is worht checking out near Melbourne.

Sydney is ok but i don't like it much.

Conversly if you don't want to go to NZ, go to Sydney it's full of bloody kiwis.

Got to ask...why would an Australian be an Albion fan??? Is there a quirky connection or is it just that you've spent time in Brighton??

I'm gonna have to make this question fixtures :D

Long story short.

One of my first games of football i ever watched over here was the Albion on some now long defunct Aussie soccer program in the early 80's.

Also i live in a city by the sea and who has more than enough of it's own seagulls hanging around for a free chip in the local KFC carpark.

Also my Australin rules football team wears blue and white as well.

So all those things combined to make the Albion the logical choice.

Also back then soccer was only for the "ethnic" kids, so the fact i followed it at all back then made me a bit different from the other aussie kids who thought it was a soft poofs game.
