Yeah, I don't get it when people try and say that Strauss, and Prior for that matter, aren't english. Even though they were both born in SA, they moved here at a young age, grew up and were educated here.

To me, it's all about parentage. If either of your parents are from England, you should be able to play for England, wherever you were born or brought up.

To take that logic to its natural conclusion the Australian cricket team would only be available to Aboriginals or those with a Aboriginal descendant...................so Merv Hughes would have been OK.

Australia have played one player of Aborigine descent in their entire history (Jason Gillespie). That's one of the reasons why the remark about trawling the world for players stuck in the craw.

The thing that worries me is that its bad for the game when we beat he Australians. The problem is that they whine about it so much as its their national sport that the have previously asked for the rules to be changed. In the 33/34 leg theory series. we beat them fair and square within the rules but apparently it was Jardine's (England's captain) fault that the Australians were scared of fast bowling and couldn't play bumpers. So don't be surprised if they lobby the ICC/MCC to require Englnd to bowl under arm next time, because as we all know, the Australians are practiced at that...

I think it was a pretty dull series with generally average cricket from both sides.

The only real talking points were the average umpiring standards (both sides copped terrible decisions) and the amatuer state of the last pitch.

The pitch was an excellent Test Match pitch. 3 of the four innings produced 300 + runs and it always looked like bowlers were going to take wickets. What more do you want from a Test Match wicket??

I see Matthew Conn has been writing bollocks about the fact the pitch in a County game would have meant docked points......

15 wickets fell on the second day so the ECB wicket inspectors would have been called in to examine the pitch had it been a county match. However the match lasted four days so I'm not sure if they would have been any point deductions (had it been a county match).
In general I prefer result wickets like this one - much better than the road at Taunton.

i read some Aussies are critising the state of the pitch... but isnt it the same one the English batted on? i really dont see how the pitch can be used as an excuse.

An excellent test pitch shouldn't be breaking up and have dust flying during the first teams innings.

Which is what that pitch was doing.

But that's not slighting the English side as they had to play on it too.

The game was just more deserving of a better quality pitch than was provided.

England needed a result and a result pitch was prepared. A draw would have meant the Ashes for Austrailia, so it was better to produce a wicket where a positive result (either way) would occur.

I was impressed by Ponting after the match, the Austrailian press is no different to ours....and good on our NSC Aussie contingent for sticking up for your country, you are very much like the Welsh in that respect.

I disagree. With the exception of Cardiff, all of the Test pitches were excellent.

Also, although dust was flyin up etc, I don't believe any of the Ozzie 1st innings wickets were really due to the pitch?
