Not so long ago we were miles ahead of Aus, now look at it! How can a team progress so negatively in such a small space of time??? I BLAME BARNES

243 is really a very poor score for a 50 over ODI. It is 60- 80 runs short of being a challenging target and would be chased down 9 out of 10 times by the team batting second. Winning by 7 wickets and with a whole 10 overs to spare just shows the chasm in class between the two teams.

We've done a typically English thing in showing too much loyalty and too much faith in tactics & players that delivered results but don't always work.

No one has made the really tough decisions, finding an opener and a 3rd seamer has been a shambles over the past 12 months. Stokes bought in far too late. We're too scared to send certain players back to the county game to get their form back.

There was a few if us on here that knew in the summer that despite winning 3-0, we only a shade above dreadful, we had the Aussies in disarray to thank for that series win and Ian Bell but it completely obscured how out of form most of the team was and how negative our captain is and our tactics in general.

Great change of tactics eh. Thing is on paper they really are not that much better than us, not to beat us comprehensively practically every game anyway, the Aussies spotted our soft underbelly and went for it & our players are too mentally weak to come back from it, no guts. It's just an embarrassment now, well it already was actually so not sure what it is now....

It's now 'historic'. Rather than just embarrassing we're now looking at one of the worse tours in the history if English cricket. We're going to lose in every match in every format. It's beyond embarrassing now.

The most curious thing..
But who do you replace them with? There isn't anyone else whose class or form demands a place in team, and all the young players tried to date (Root, Bairstow, Ballance etc) are demonstrably not good enough. Stokes might become a reasonable third seamer and bat at 8 but he won't carry a team on his own.

Yet another one-sided, pathetic shambles.

But it will be business as usual for England, no-one will be fired, let alone have the guts to resign.

This is the cause of our problems. We can't see past what we've got. Young players come in and because the senior players are failing so badly, it's putting far too much pressure on those coming in.

We're chopping and changing young players while senior places keep their places regardless of form. Carberry & Woakes should play for a start.
