I remember Rodigan talking about how much he had to pay for some of his specials for his clashes with Barry G on the radio one time. And you can bet that the likes of Sentinel will be paying a whole lot more than Rodigan.
Have to agree with him about dubplates...it has got a bit out of hand the last few years.
Used to be that if you had a dubplate..only you had it...!!
Now all the sounds have the same dubplates almost...with only the euro sounds showing any sort of creativity when it comes to cutting unusual or lessor known tunes..love the man.....
Nice Rodigan interviews there Love the Pablo story. Good to hear a snatch of Super Cat's Vineyard Style in there too - love the lyrics on that tune and for inventiveness and comedy value it's right up there with Lovindeers' Man Shortage for me.
I had a big 5 element FM aerial on the roof, specifically for listenening to Rodigan play " Late night Rockers" on Capital and also Tony Williams, and later ranking Miss P on Radio London. Reception could be fantastic some nights, next to non existent on others ( listening form Hastings ).
Anyway, I'm rambling as usual, but I've had a dig around in my old cassettes and found a Rodigan v Barry G clash from '89. I shall certainly be listening back to that now in the coming days Pretty sure it's the only clash I managed to tape though. What I really like about those radio clashes was that they let their specials play all the way through rather than the usual 30 second haul & pull up nonsense that can get really frustrating. The whole vibe of those shows was something special - the little stories they told about how they got their specials, the friendly clash banter, and the sense they gave you that the whole of London and Jamaica was glued to their radios for it. Classic radio without a doubt.
