[Albion] Attending games on your own

To be honest it's the reason I don't go to as many games as I'd like - it sounds quite sad, but having lived away from Sussex for 15 years I don't know any other BHA fans particularly well, and the idea of going to a game on my own, with the costs and travel time, is not nearly as fun as going with a mate where the event is more of a day/weekend thing.

Looking forward to the kids being old enough to take them, and making it more of a family day out - my wife isn't really interested, but would probably come if we went as a family, and treat it as a weekend away.

I go to a lot of games on my own both home and away. One of the things I love about the Albion is that it feels like coming home. Generally end up chatting with folk I sit next to and it's friendly and relaxed.

Yep normally on my own unless one of my daughters want to go........ For this reason I've decided not to go the the Semi Final and will have about 10 family at home for a BBQ then the game.

If we get to the Final I will however happily go on my own

I usually meet up with my son, sister and a few mates at the Amex when I get there, but I can quite happily go anywhere on my own, incuding away games (although not done that in a long time).

Sometimes I have a "date night" with myself, where I'll go into town, have a couple of beers, a quiet read of the paper, then go and see a film and go somewhere for a bite to eat afterwards. No fuss about where I go, what film I see, where I visit for some scoff. I'm never late, or hanging around waiting for someone else. I'll go home when I want, and I'm lovely company.

Yes we're all Albion fans, but I don't feel I can tap the person sitting next to me on the shoulder and say something like "I think Webster should have passed then!" And I feel more self-conscious in singing and shouting, especially when the people around me are treating the match as a Quaker prayer meeting. Above all I want to share the experience with someone.

In the old days I thought nothing of going on my own, home or away. I knew I'd always meet someone I knew on the terraces. Not the case now.

None of my friends in Hertfordshire are Albion fans and I lost touch with people in Sussex many years ago so I always go alone. The only exception was when we played at Brisbane Rd regularly a few years back when I always went with an Orient fan from work and sat with the home fans. It’s never worried me and I usually chat to people around me.

I think this is true if you sit in certain areas…WSL etc, where it’s much quieter. I tend to have the same seat each game (it’s not a ST seat). I find the nearer to the North Stand you get, the atmosphere is livelier, more singing if you are into that sort of thing. Plus if you are in the same area each game (largely ST areas), you get to know those around you and can at least nod, celebrate or cry together.

At the goldstone I'd get a lift in with my dad, but he would sit in the south and I'd go stand in the west, or sometimes the north. At Withdean I usually went on my own. When the amex came around a few of my friends wanted to get season tickets so started going in a group. They've all drifted away (before we got promoted to the premier league).

I prefer going on my own.

I was going to wait until general sale so I could go with a mate but chickened out on the Tuesday. Glad I did seeing how quick general sale tickets went. Still looking forward to it and will still sing my heart out for the lads. Shame but Id rather be there than not.

I think it's one of life pleasures sometimes . A bit like going to the cinema on your own. Its not something I would want to do all the time, but once in a while, and for me its the odd away game, its a real treat - complete self-indulgence. My best experience doing it was the Russell Slade game, away at Bristol Rovers..

Usually with family or friends but absolutely fine on the occasions I go on my own (both home and away). Also go to cricket or nonleague on my Todd as well. Whilst it’s fun to socialise I’m primarily there to see the team perform and support them.

I used to go to all the games on my own, none of my (few) friends showed any interest in Brighton and my family weren’t interested either, it was just something I did alone. It’s different now I’ve got children, they all enjoy coming with me and are loving our great team. I don’t think I’d enjoy going on my own much any more.

When I first went many centuries ago I was part of a large group. If I go these days it's on my own. I'm such a DULLARD that no-one would enjoy being with me anyway. Looking at museums and churches before a game is not many folk's thing.

I go to games and concerts on my own all the time. It does not bother me. I am happy with my own company and can normally start a conversation with someone if I need to. I would rather go to things I am interested in on my own then go with some one who has no interest, and you can see how bored thet are.

I go to loads of gigs on my own…mainly as no one else likes the bands. Doesn’t bother me and I am happy with my own company.

Mainly home games in the afternoon with my 3 boys and quite a few aways also. Then the alter ego comes out for evening games that I can get to on school nights - home and away on my own with lashings of beer. I don't have many friends and none of them support Brighton. My brother used to go but has other issues that mean he doesn't want to anymore. Anyway I absolutely love it solo, in cognito, always far too many beers and croaky voice from exercising the vocal chords so always a couple of days recovery when I get back to reality. I live near Epsom so if going solo to the Amex the Downs hotel is a fine bolthole to stay the night after the game and I love the walk to the ground and back along the downs.

Wembley with the kids next, sober and buying fanta and crisps then next solo trip shortly after to Nottingham...no Fanta will be purchased.

I always go with my son ( who is an adult) and meet up with friends who sit with us. There is a guy next to us who comes alone and we have got to know him well. Sometimes it’s good to do things on your own. I will happily go and watch a band play that no one I know is interested in seeing.

I don't really know anyone who likes the same kind of music as me so end up going to a lot of shows by myself and it's great fun.

Granted I like spending the entire show in a mosh pit so it's not as much of a group activity anyway.
