It is indeed. Now wait for some **** whose views (and knowledge) haven't evolved since they left the Sixth Form Debating Society to say that the money would have been better spent fighting hunger in the Third World.

I expect that **** will try and point out that the money spent on this project could have provided 200,000 fresh water wells in Africa. Some other **** might suggest it would fund Man City for a season. This **** hopes that we are able to strike a balance between scientific progress, world famine and footballers wages.

So does this one, but if this mission hadn't taken place the money would NOT have been spent on humanitarian projects any more than the money TB spent on building the Amex would have gone on a new hospital or school instead.

Personally i'd like to know where we come from. I would seriously doubt this can provide anything that gives us this answer.

Comets are thought to be made up of the matter that composed the early solar system. Studying comets seems one of the best ways to build up the picture of how the earth was formed.

Two pictures from ESA - first is the orbiter taken from the lander just after it separated, and the second is the little lander on its way. Good luck Philae - not long now!

Shame your attachments don't work. When you are linking a URL, try unticking the box that says about linking the file or something. Whenever I untick that the pics seem to then work.

Bizarre they worked for me after I'd posted - do they not open when you click on them? I'll try again...

Well at least this proves that if they discover a comet / asteroid on a collision course with Earth, they will be able to land a bomb on it and blow it off course.

Yes - ish. Of course they'd have to launch the missile 11 years in advance of it hitting us, and there's a 5 year build programme prior to that. But it's ok - current technology allows us up to a full 6 months of warning of an object likely to hit us, so that should be ok. Oh.

I just don't get it. What's all the fuss about.

I used to get down Comet's on a regular basis. Moreover - I used to park
the car easy.
