Yesterday we were in almost the exact spot for home games and anything started from our right was easily heard and instantly picked up on.

Not only that though when both Stoke fans had reason to give it some they made some serious noise too.

Stadiums with flat, low, ceilings are best, for maximising the noise made by fans.
The City Ground and Bet365 stadium proved that, for me.

I think Stoke is the loudest I have ever heard from home fans anywhere in England. Wasn’t there yesterday but in previous visits they get to a right crescendo!!

The North Stand roof has a small surface area at a considerable distance from the stand.
The slant makes it very difficult for fans in the west of the stand to make use of the roof. Oddly, the club positions the away fans in the best possible position to make use of it.
The West Stand Upper is ideal to create atmosphere from. Large surface area roof with fans close to it. This is where chanting should be started from.

The North Stand roof has a small surface area at a considerable distance from the stand.
The slant makes it very difficult for fans in the west of the stand to make use of the roof. Oddly, the club positions the away fans in the best possible position to make use of it.

All well and good but most of us are the wrong side of 50. We do make a fair bit of noise but are never going to be cheerleaders.

10 mins in, still 0-0, silence, only interrupted by an occasional lone voice shouting 'shut the f**k up' to the chanting City fans.


Those wanting to move the away fans really are missing the point.

The fault lies with the stadium design sadly. Think of all the decent atmosphere's and they all have a "big end" behind the goal. Ours is made worse by the roof being so high above. Doubt you can solve it without a full rebuild of the stadium.

See Kenilworth Road. When Luton played Man City a few weeks ago in the FA Cup, all you could hear was the home fans calling Anthony Taylor a "w*****', and not even the TV could drown it out.

The collective negative energy permeates the whole stadium, that would include me if I was going this year, so no one has enthusiasm to start songs, it's like worthing used to be, full oaps and plastics.

To be fair I didn't recognise half of the fans around me last night, so many tourists there which was made very clear with the oooohhhs when the fire cannons started before kick off. It actually felt like a 3rd round cup match when most regulars don't bother with

The inevitability of the result was clearly the reason why the atmosphere was not there last night.

and 3 down after 30 mins topped it off.

no side will cope with the injury list we have had all season.

At the start of the season we could not find a fullback, and now we cant find a winger and midfield !

We have totally run out of steam mentally imo. And sat mid table with nothing to play for.

I deffo had 5 City fans in front of me.
I knew they were due to the level of uninterestedness was off the scale and only matched by those I've seen at The Etihad.

Fair point. Put more bluntly - as away fans we get treated like second class citizens when we go away
(Newcastle, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Brentford and Spurs being the most notable). We should do the same.
