Under the Police Box
Rehashed old news, but would help loads if the Norff could start/coordinate a solitary ditty rather than the standard simultaneous three.

From memory, the North, (under the Police Box) sang:
Glory Glory
Brighton Aces
Murray Wonderland (while warming up and once subbed on)
Bissouma (while warming up)
When I was just...
Stephens' Song
A Davy Propper Song
Soccerroo
Blue & White Army
Withdean to Wembley
Mooy, Mooy, Mooy
We Are Brighton

Along with the very standard...
Allllbbbiioooooon
Seeeaaaggggulllls
Sea sea seasiders
And many renditions of Sussex-by-the-Sea

The only notable song missing yesterday was Build-a-Bonfire.

We do f**king TRY!!

In all seriousness when do you think is an atmosphere inducing time to play at the AMEX.
Judging by the previous couple of games it definitely isn't 3pm on a Saturday.
Sheffield United will be 'too close to Christmas'.
The following two games will be far too early.
The next 'atmosphere' game will be palace but that will be moved to an inconvenient time for atmosphere.

Just how many games with a poor atmosphere will it take before you accept the fact that if the 'at game experience' is down for 95% of the matches, then that is our baseline noise.

That would make perfect sense if it were once a Calderon of noise.
All our stadiums have been graveyards most of the time.

That's what makes this whole debate worse.
Because when we do take the roof off, once or maybe twice a season, it's electric, spine tingling, deafening and most importantly inspiring.

But also annual.

As for the rosy speckers saying it was better in the Championship

IT WASN'T

You are just remembering the memorable games.
The rare occasions when we lifted the team.

What you're not doing is remembering the twice weekly grind between September and April, when we ALL sat there in silence.

Oh and for the same reason the Goldstone was even quieter.

At the very best we are reactive fans, who have had very little to react against over the last 118 years.

I agree with most of what you write, but would add that to be fair most clubs are the same when it comes to home support.

I've always thought our away support to be well above average though, certainly when I used to go away a lot it was very often noisy and continuous throughout whatever the score. Not sure what it's like now? I can't travel away much anymore.

That dicking about in front of our goal (which seems to be getting progressively worse) isn't exactly conducive to roaring the team on. Apart from roaring them on to stop dicking about in front of our goal, that is. Presumably it's done with Potter's blessing, but it really is an accident waiting to happen. Can't really see the tactical benefit of languidly stroking the ball repeatedly across our own box inviting opposition forwards to put us under pressure. What gives?

The atmosphere always appears to be good in the Bundesliga. I've not been, but have watched on BT.
But then they don't charge supporters anywhere near we do over here, and they can stand! Yes I know many won't like the drums!

The Dunk song had many airings, especially in the first half.
You’re not singing anymore
You only sing when you’re winning
Trossard & Potter also had songs sung.

After we scored the atmosphere was great until we conceded and it never really got going properly again after that.

I don't doubt it! The trouble is, getting a good atmosphere is not about getting 50 people to sing 20 different songs. It's about getting most of the home crowd singing the same song at the same time. One bloke in WSU stood up and belted out an Aaallbbiooon at the right moment when we were pushing for the win, and it led to the whole ground giving us the best rendition of the day.

I sit in WSU towards the north end and have a good view of the policebox, and most of their songs are inaudible to me and sound like muttering and random clapping. The only ones in that list I recall hearing were a Socceroo, Murray Wonderland (warming up) and Withdean to Wembley, which are the ones that more of the North joined in. Be clear, I'm not blaming anyone, just giving feedback on what the northwest sounded like from really quite close by in WSU.

I chatted to a couple of Wolves in the train q to Lewes and they commented how quiet we were. Given we'd just won at Arsenal, it was disappointing to see so may empty seats yesterday, They said 'both teams were shit' (which I disagreed with) but they admitted their expectations have changed and they expected to win at Brighton, perhaps unrealistically. I fear from an atmosphere point of view, ours have too. This is probably the best Albion team I've ever seen in 48 seasons of being a regular - the least we should be able to do is get behind them.

At times that was heart stopping. Jiminez was waiting to tuck away one of our ludicrous crosses across our own 6 yard box. It’s going to happen.

Completely agree with all the comments but do need to reiterate that the problem is not with the North per se.
Under the police Box we are more than happy to sing constantly throughout the game, but if the north end of WSL (who can hear) don't join in then it won't spread.

Don't know what the solution is, maybe we wave different coloured flags depending on what we are going to sing next?

Said it before, but a dedicated section in NSC for "approved" song lyrics would be good... We always get a few odd looks from those coming to the North from other areas when we sing a VERY different version of 'Murray Wonderland' than the more family-friendly areas.

Atmosphere today

Did everyone have their Xmas party last night and were suffering from a hangover ?

Shockingly bad

Decent game but we only piped up when we scored

Wolves fans commented, rightly so, on it being a library

Need to do better

I agree with the thrust of what you're saying. Where I'll differ is that there wasn't silence until we scored. Instead, there were plenty of 'fans' getting on the team's backs, something that Potter picked up on in his post-match comments. Sure, we had conceded and were going through a bad spell at that time, but I adopt the view that you turn up not merely to be entertained or to enjoy your team win (which you're 'entitled' to as a customer) but, rather, to support the team.

Pretty sure it was 'You only win, when you're singing' was the actual chant yesterday.

They weren’t that loud themselves apart from they chanted “*uck off Albion” ..well least that’s what it sounded like....few evictions from there end..no idea what that was about
Yes, they were very quiet. Really ironic that they chanted sing when you're winning yet they did the same. Subdued all round.

Yes fair play to you for trying, but it’s only really the standard ones that are likely to spread. The clever ditties are inaudible beyond your immediate vicinity when only 50 people join in. In the Goldstone days everyone knew that we would belt out “SEAGULLS” at every set piece, and we need to get back to basics like that.

Withdean to Wembley is one of the newest songs in that list and is amongst the most likely to spread. The bulk of the rest are actually very established songs... Glory Glory is about Peter Ward. Brighton Aces is about the Goldstone/Old Shoreham Road. These are not here to today, gone tomorrow ditties. These ARE standard songs.

Other posters have complained we only sing 3 songs and yet I can list nearly 20 that I can recall had a least two renditions each. But now that's too many 'clever ditties'.

Gods country fortnightly
Think people seem to forget that at the Goldstone for many many years, there was only ever noise for the north stand and the away end, the rest of the ground was silent

I think the numbers quoted as being 'on the waiting list' you can take with a pinch of salt. I know quite a number of fans who are members but just go occasionally due to other commitments and have no intention of being a STH but are classed as being on the waiting list.

Of the 7 or 8000 supposedly 'on the waiting list' I suspect less than a quarter of those would actually take up the offer of a ST when their time comes round in the queue. My neighbour for one is a classic example. He was offered a ST in the summer but didn't take up the offer as he works away many weekends so can only get to a few games a season. Suspect there are many people in a similar boat.

The dull part of the south coast
Sunday afternoon don’t help.

Quite right. The timing of kick off at 4.30 was weird. The weather was crap. Trains were up the Swanee so I had to drive. I couldn’t have my pre-match quota of beer - that definitely didn’t feel right! And, because of all that, and thinking about a horrible 70 mile drive home, I wasn’t in the mood or enthusiastic. Sorry, but that’s the way it was. I’ll be a better fan next time - honest! :drink:
