At what stage is it acceptable to get excited?

Although there are notable exceptions (Derby last season for instance), I tend to think that clubs that are in contention at the end of October are likely to be there for the duration, so if Brighton are still top or in the top 4 on 1 November, then I'd say is the time to be really excited.

Boring question but if you mean when can we think ourselves as serious promotion candidates, from experience, I'd say Christmas at the earliest, because there are so many games left.

I'm certainly very pleased with our start but everytime i get even a tiny bit excited I remember Forest's good start under Pearce last season

Get excited for our position after 5 games? Why the hell not? After the misery of last season, I was wetting my knickers after the Forest game!

I'm already excited, however if we beat Hull and that puts us 6 points in front of one of the bookmakers favourites which then gives us every right to get excited until Rotherham beat us bringing us crashing down to earth..... But that the Albion & football we all love.... Great ain't it....

The season we came up from L1 with Gus, we did not do well against the other promotion contenders, lost both games against Huddersfield, lost and drew to Saints, but we never slipped up against the lesser sides we might have expected to be beating.
So, how we do against some of the better sides in the division is not necessarily a reliable indicator of where we will finish. Any side can beat any other, so any win is a good win.
I am excited now.

We had already earned promotion by time we played Huddersfield and Southampton. So think foot was off the gas for these two

We won the league with four games to play, the players were on holiday (and deservedly after we won it)

After last season we should be excited now. About our start, the football we are playing and the quality of the players we have brought in - and may still bring in!

As for getting excited about where we may be by the end of the season. No! Keep our feet on the ground until April!

Things have gone well. Yesterday's performance was the best so far but everything has gone right on the points front, bar the Huddersfield game. We have not won by more than one goal yet. There will be a dip in form for the odd game and also some bad luck. Just a gentle caveat. Don't get your knickers in a twist.

It’s exciting to see a team with purpose, passion, hunger, intent, courage, confidence, heart, intelligence, belief, competence, hard pressing, slick passing, receiving, winning 50/50’s, on the same page, and with good movement on and off the ball.

Yesterday reminded me of why I like football and removed any doubt from Norwich fans of Hughton being too cautious.

Hughton has probably never been as hands on in recruitment in his whole managing career so I think, with us, we will see what the real Hughton is about.

Bloom, for the first time, can fully trust a manager 100% with signings and that is key.

If not excited I’m very content in our football direction.

After yesterday I am officially excited. In recent seasons if we had gone 0-2 up and then been pegged back to 2-2 we would undoubtedly have gone on to lose. Yesterday? Okay, we'll go up the other end and take the lead back. That was a MASSIVE difference for me.

Excited about what? I'm excited about our form, our position, our signings, our manager, and how the team is gelling. Excited about next May? I'll wait until April to get excited about that. In the meantime, I'm enjoying what we're doing now, without worrying about what may or may not happen in the future.

Somebody commented on the official match day thread yesterday that "we are contenders". That got me thinking how far into the season do you have to remain in the automatic promotion area before it is reasonable to a neutral to call yourselves contenders? We had a great start under Gus some seasons back and it proved to be short lived. Decorum also suggests it's not a good idea to get too cocky among mixed company, as there are still 41 games to go. When is a good time to officially consider ourselves "in the mix"?

Having said all of that, I am already massively excited about this season. If this thread seems weird then it's probably because I am off nights and could more sensibly be going to bed.

I was excited at the start of this season as I'm always am at the start of any season. You just never know how it will turn out. I always expect Brighton to win every game and I'm disappointed if we draw or lose. It looking good now though.

Certainly not before mid March 2016 as recent seasons have shown that frontrunners all too often disappear into oblivion.

The proverbial dark horse(s) come up on the blind side to bring you back to reality with a bang and leave you perhaps feeling a little bit silly especially if you have gone in for the Billy BigB------- bit on here or other social media.
