There seems to be a lot of ill feeling towards Potter a the moment but I really think people should look at the bigger picture

Dan Ashworth is the one pulling the strings on what style of football we play and was very positive on having Potter as Head Coach to play the style he wanted.

I also get the feeling the team selection has a big input from Dan aswell.

Yes Graham has made a few errors but I really think we should not forget Dan is allowing this to happen on his guidance.

Not a lot, just seems like it sometimes coming as it does from the same, usual, tedious, impatient, perspective-lacking group that make an amount of noise not commensurate with their knowledge of the club or the game
I doubt it - and why do you 'get a feeling' ? Based on what ? When has anyone in the club even indicated this at all ??
Dan is allowing what ? Maupay to fail to his a cow's arse with a banjo ?

I'm not trying to polite or endeared, and you'll find "personal attacks" in most threads on this forum, lets not pretend this is some kind of morally perfect bastion of unicorn shaped love and friendship. And I wouldnt want it to be, its good as it is - pure manlove. I get to hear about my pizza boxes, TottonSeagull gets to hear about his 24/7 negativity, and you... did you watch Celtic "Absolutely not shit" FC this week?

Because others stoop to personal attacks on other people doesn't mean that you should lower yourself to a similar level. Rise above it. Be fair in your objective assessment of things.

You can still do that and defend Potter and be 100% loyal to him . I always defended CH 100% but that didn't mean that I overlooked or defended some bad results or bad performances. If you can be objective and concede to yer guys failings. Your views will carry more credibility.

No I didn't watch Celtic. I hate Celtic. I hate Rangers. I only watch Motherwell matches so that's only time I normally see Celtic matches.

Top that I have been too engrossed in the US Election to follow much Football in the last few days.

Ok, having now caught up this is a ludicrous thread. Is this now a NSC trend, after every defeat: “at what point should x be sacked?”

Firstly do you understand what the measures of Dan Ashworth job is? His job is nothing to do with the coaching or results on the pitch. He’s looking out for the future of the club.

Have you noticed many good young players going out on loan and having rave reviews? Have you not noticed the quality coming through and having a pathway to the first team now? Alzate, Connolly, Sanchez, White, Molumby?

What about MacAllister, Lamptey, the two Polish lads? Lallana? All the above are a result of Ashworth’s work.

OP this is a disgraceful thread in my opinion. You’re just upset because in FIFA you’d have more points by now.

I’d have to agree

I am. Two recent examples: I've said that doing the short corner routine that often is some dumb shit they should stop doing and I was critical of his subs against WBA. Nothing and no-one is perfect.

GPott's team has played 8 games.
1 game was an 'unchanged squad'.

Of the remaining 6 games.

Bissouma has missed 3
Dunk has missed 3
Civil unrest has cost 3 players a place.
There have been injuries to The Tross Lallana and perennial sub Ali J

For GPott not to to be 'The Tinkerman' he'd have needed to play 7 men v Tottingham.

He is perhaps not the tinkerman but he is a tinkerman of some note. He will always mix it up, he is trying to out smart the opposition, although i do wonder if his cleverness exceeds his capabilities at times. Or put it another way, he over thinks it

This thread title feels like satire.

But the vision of the club is correct.

Playing attractive football & developing young, exciting players is the most effective way of creating headlines, gaining recognition and ultimately growing the club's global fanbase.

Simply put, it's good for business / growing the club - which is our aim now we are in the Premier League.

Wenger did it at Arsenal (all those years ago!) and talks about it as one of his great achievements.

The caveat is always going to be that we need results too. And I've no doubt that (like last season) if we are in trouble in January, we will revert to football that's a bit more boring / tactical / effective to maintain our place in the Premier League.

But I'd hate to see us revert to dull, defensive, counter attacking football completely, just to scrape by every year as a team nobody gives a f$ck about.
What's the point?

BBA's vision is the right one IMO.

I am not a fan of Potter, I don’t think he is up to the job and his abysmal record verifies this! !

He hasn't had an abysmal record by any yardstick. Long runs of winless games is pretty normal in the EPL for a bottom 10 club which we still are. Anyway so far he's been with us for one season and so far 8 games of another where currently we are 16th and our only defeats have been to Everton, Man Utd,, Spurs and Chelsea.
In his first season he secured for us our highest ever points total in the Premier League and our 2nd best season er, ever.

Team selection has ZERO to do with Ashworth.

No head coach or manager would accept that

Agree and it's clear to me Potter still doesn't know his best team.

Personally I quite liked yesterday's team, Connolly instead of Maupay would help.

But still we look like a flashy lightweight fighter up against heavyweights. No knockout punch.

Prince Naseem Hamed v Tyson Fury.

Our style of play is not the issue, it's simply a lack of goals (simply, he says)
The problem, as I see it, is the constant squad rotation. No players are able to form on the pitch relationships due to constantly being replaced. GP needs to find an XI that works and stick with it for a few games.
Last night was a great display from most players on the pitch and looked like they might score plenty if given the chance to work together.
It appears to me like he's trying to keep all players happy by giving everyone a chance.

Ashworth adds no value to the set-up whatsoever. Total chancer who is only as good as the stream of young players in his timeframe who would have progressed through the ranks in any case

True

If anything he could potentially be devisory if he attempts to intervene in any way on the playing side of things.

Manager should tell him what he needs and he should go out and attain what has been requested.

If it happens the other way round then you have
someone making football decisions who is accountable for nothing on the playing side of things yet they are potentially influencing it in a major way.

Both Lallana and Wellbeck spoke well of Ashworth.

Also Ashworth was a factor in us signing Lamptey

To say he adds no value ignores both of those points and also that you have a complete understanding of what he does ... care to share ?
