[Albion] At What Point Does A Fortuitous Cup Run Destroy The Unity Of The Squad?

Tricky one for the management.

You throw in a number of second choice players just to more or less give them a run out and keep them semi-happy.

Then they do far better than expected and set off on a serious cup run.

Dilemma:

At what point does the management step in and say cheers lads, thanks for all your help in getting us this far, the first choice players will step in from this point on?

Tough call.

Could get messy.

Haven’t you got enough to worry about?

If it happens that we get a good cup run, I’m sure CH can handle it.

With the exception of Uwe and Krul, the cup team is comprised of 1st team players. I'm excluding Rosenior as I don't think he'd play if both Bruno and Schelotto were fit. The cup team's not exactly a team of juniors. Not sure CH would change it too much if we played, for example, Man City in the next round.

I love the FA cup and wish all teams played close to their best sides but the PL money now is worth more to clubs in the bottom half of the table than the Lure of winning this great trophy. Even teams chasing promotion to the PL rarely play their best 11.
I don’t think he will change it much. Expect to see a similar starting 11 to the last round at this time.
If we make the QF I suppose a lot will depend on who we get and where it’s being played.
By that stage on a positive note the likes of city, spurs and united will likely also be rotating their squads due to the CL knockouts.

If a tree falls in a wood when no-one can hear it, does Zaha still roll around and scream for a penalty?

We should rest a couple for Coventry (maybe Propper/Dunk etc) but if we get through to the quarter finals we need to play full strength in my opinion.
Third and Fourth round games have come at times where we needed to use the squad to the full but that is less so now with games more infrequent.

One MASSIVE positive from the current cup run, is that Kayal looks ready to step into the first team and is up to speed. The same could be said of Goldson and Hunemier should Duffy or Dunk miss games. Negatives are that none of our wingers are either shining or demonstrating they should be starting, no one player has staked a claim to start or maintain their place. Biggest concern for me. Locadia being able to supposedly being able to play wide or up front could be a genius signing, as we may need him out wide rather than up front.

If None Of Mine Have Yet Done So Then I Think It's An Accepted Practice.

I would play the best team every round and certainly from here in.
