They are as all as bad as each other treating the public as little more than lap-dogs. However i simply feel that Labour have created this mess and they should clear it up. Should that mean big cuts (like the Irish have done) so be it. They must not be allowed to walk away from this and then blame who ever is elected. For once they need to live in the rule world like the 'common' man you only spend what you have. Remember these two dont let them walk away.

So should we have left John Major's Tories in power to clean up after two decades of f*** ups in 1997?

What a load of tosh people are posting. How is the country 'messed up'? There are problems, of course, and not every interest group can always be accommodated. The UK economy is possibly not performing as well as it could, but the same could be said of many many others. Managing an economy nowadays is an incredibly complex business, probably outside of the scope of any single sovereign state (eg Dubai?)

As to the suggestion that people vote for non-parties (UKIP, BNP), well that is undoubtedly your choice in an open and democratic society. However, if you feel that strongly about it (yes, I am talking to you bushy and Leekbrookgull) why not get actively involved and take office somewhere, even if it is only on a parish council. Then you might understand how difficult it is.

The thing was of course that Labout inherieted a stable and growing economy that allowed to choose any policy they liked. If they go in May, the tories will probably have to wait for years (if not decades) until they can actually commit any new spending.

It's almost the same thing. Thatcher hands the reins over when she knows the ship is sinking and the party suffers a monumental loss in 1997.

Blair sees the same thing so finally gives Brown his supposed wish to take charge knowing full well he'll only stay put by default until a general election is called.

I'm completely disillusioned by it all to be honest. I've never been a right wing supporter but the Labour party certainly don't deserve my vote at the moment.

However let's not forget that we aren't Americans, we don't vote for the leader of the country, we get to elect candidates to represent our constituencies and whilst my MP is currently a Labour politician (Des Turner, representing Kemptown constituency since 1997) I should imagine they'll lose the seat primarily as he isn't standing and everyone is fed up with Labour. Meanwhile the Green Party continue to make giant strides and councillor Ben Duncan has confirmed he will be standing for this seat next year. With Green candidates winning over all the local council voters in the centre of the city (Queen's Park, North Laine, St Peter's, Elm Grove, Hanover, Goldsmid, Regency AND Preston Park) don't be surprised if they don't build on the success of their highest ever UK election result in 2005 when Keith Taylor polled 22% of the vote for Pavilion Ward.

At the general election vote for the candidate that you think will serve you best

Christ you are clueless.

Nearly 3 million unemployed. When was that figure reached?

Government debt is worse then it has ever been, why?

80,000 in prison and 10% are foreign nationals, why?

Immigration well out of control fact.So much for 13,000 Poles coming over :lolol:

More people claiming sick benefit then ever.

Rising taxes,fuel,booze etc

Threat of terrorism remains constantly high.Police resources stretched

The funding for our armed forces keeps getting slashed, lack of equipment etc.

I could go on and on.

Gordon Brown should have recognised the credit bubble for what it was, but he was gripped by the mass-delusion that the 'prosperity' (built purely on credit) would go on forever. That he failed to recognise it is pure incompetence, and he and his party must go. A minority did recognise it (Vince Cable for one), but they were ignored and branded as 'doomsters', by the deluded majority.

Alright she was pushed, more's the pity. I would have enjoyed seeing her get the kicking the Conservatives took at that election in 1997.

Still waiting for her to snuff it. Got bunting an everything

The greens may think they might stand a chance but all they'll do is split the labour vote, making it easy for the tories to win. They don't call them watermelons for nothing.
