Didn't Villa mess us about over some money when we were really skint? If so, hope they don't get another point all season.

Villa are down because their business minded chairman who only came in for the TV money will not back them in the transfer window. Suppose that is what you get if you sell your soul

Martin O'Neill spunked £120m in about four years; it's not Chelsea or Man U but that's not peanuts

Was it that John Gregory wouldn't play Gareth Barry as his next game would've triggered a clause owing us money and we received about ten quid?

It feels ridiculous to write them off but.....they are 11/12 points behind the "safe" teams of.....Swansea, Bournemouth, Norwich and Chelsea.

Those 4 teams will get more points than Villa between now and the end of the season....let alone drop the required 11/12

For that reason, they are out.

Would be fascinating to see how they do in the championship. I could see them keeping hold of a fair few and only really losing Richards, Sinclair, Ayew and Carles Gil.

You best make TB aware that he needs to spend more than £48,000,000 in the summer as anything less will be regarded as peanuts.

Perhaps having spent £48m, then handing it all over to, fans choice, Tim Sherwood showed less business acumen.

Was it that John Gregory wouldn't play Gareth Barry as his next game would've triggered a clause owing us money and we received about ten quid?

Gregory incensed followers of the Albion when he said that Dick Knight "wouldn’t know Gareth Barry if he stood on Brighton beach in a blue and white striped shirt, a ball under his arm and a seagull on his head."

Later on, he also said: “We got absolutely robbed at the time by Brighton. He was substitute for Brighton youth team once. Suddenly Bryan Jones, the youth development officer at Villa, took him from there and he came to us. We tried to agree compensation and we couldn’t. When I put him in the first team his valuation went through the roof. Brighton were very shrewd and they knew the longer they left it the more they’d make because Barry was doing so well.

“Also at the start of the season he got called up by Glenn Hoddle to train with the England squad and that put his valuation up even more. We’d already paid £100,000 at the time and we ended up paying £1 million for him. That sounds cheap now when you see what he’s achieved, but it should’ve been a lot less.”

Remember when we were at Withers and Villa was the 'big day out'

If we drew them in the last couple of years it would have been meh.

How times change!

Can see them going through the leagues.

They don't have any youth players coming through to step up - and Lerner won't spend.

Got Wolves written all over it

Thing is Villa really are a sleeping (well comatose) giant. They have a stadium and support and the history and the trophies. They should certainly be higher up the table IMHO.

What's happened there for them to be so rrrubbish in recent years. Not a club who's fortunes I follow at all but always thought of as a big club.

Owner lost interest, fingers burnt by previous managers so no longer putting serious cash in, instead he is taking a punt on cheap foreigners in the hope one or two come off and he can sell them on at a profit
