A Christmas treat ended in tears for two Midland schoolboys – when they were thrown out of Villa Park for celebrating a Manchester United goal.
Isaac Thompson, seven and his brother James, nine, were sitting among home fans when they jumped up to celebrate Radamel Falcao’s equaliser on Saturday.
Their dad Laurie, who also celebrated the goal, said two women Aston Villa supporters “screamed” for the family to be booted out.
Stewards moved in and they were kicked out, leaving the boys in floods of tears.
Laurie, who lives in Bromsgrove, had paid £57 for the tickets and said he was “disgusted”.
He said: “One woman jumped up and scowled and screamed ‘get them out of here’.
“Another woman screamed the same thing.
“I said ‘sorry’ in recognition of the fact we were in their end.
“Everyone else around us was fine.
“But I could see the stewards coming down the stairs and one said ‘you’re going to have to leave the ground’.
“I said ‘come on mate’ and my seven-year-old burst into tears saying ‘I don’t know what’s going on’ and then my nine-year-old burst into tears.
“The vast majority of the Villa fans around were saying ‘guys, don’t be stupid’ to the stewards.
“I was telling them ‘I’m sorry, we’ll sit on our hands - please accept our apologies’.
“But they insisted on taking us out of the ground.”
