Hi folks

I bought my daughters old iphone a few years ago and plonked a O2 sim in it and it worked fine.

as it was a work sim, I took it out last week and bought a Virgin Monthly £10 a month sim...BUT I didnt realise the Iphone was actually locked to O2.

Anyone know the best way to get this unlocked? is there a code I can get somewhere or do I have to go direct to O2?

Cheers

Probably be cheaper to buy an O2 sim? You might also get in touch with Virgin to ascertain that their sim is suitable to get the full usage of the phone, it being a smartphone "an all".

good point....the sim I have is a pay monthy, 200 minutes, unlim text and 1gb monthly internet, which is on a Virgin tariff of £10 50 ( I have virgin media that allows a discount from £15.00 pm)

I couldnt find a O2 one similar at all

Firstly you need to JAILBRAKE the phone, this will allow the software to unlock the phone to work.

use the web browser and go to jailbrakeme.com it will do itsself once you have clicked a few buttons...

BUT YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NOT UPDATED THE SOFTWARE BEYOND 3.1.3

Then after jailbrake you will need to download an app through jailbrake called whitesnow.

the whitenow app will unlock your phone in about 30 seconds....

obviously the above is not guarenteed to work but I have done it several times without problems and best of all its free..

PM me if you want to call and I will try and talk you through it on the phone.

as long as u have not upgraded the software to 3.1.3 you will be ok

To check this go to settings/general/about and look in the entry VERSION

Its not worth upgrading iphone software on an older phone as the older phones dont have the memory on newer iphone4's and it will just make it run slow.

PM if u need help ...

No you don't, ignore him.

O2 will unlock it for you, but can take a few weeks. Alternatively have a look at o2 simplicity for iPhone, maybe not quite as good as what you have, but similar. Could take it to a backstreet shop, but O2 did mine with no probs

o2 MIGHT unlock it and for a price...

Just search for jailbrake....then you will know how to do it..

Why would O2 unlock it so you can use one of their phones with another network.

Anyway your choice as I said done it several times...

Jailbreak will also allow you to use apps not supplied by Apple....

I have a Virgin sim in my Iphone, as said above o2 will unlock it free of charge, as they did mine.

Anyone know of an app that will allow me to toggle on/off the 3G and wifi from the front screen ?
Been looking all over but not found one. not without Jailbreaking it, of which i have no intention of doing.

If they don't want you to, why is it on the website ? O2 - Online Help Never had a problem, they've done 3 iphones for me. A lot less risky than jailbreaking and limiting....

To turn wifi on and off: click the settings app, click on the Wi-Fi option, then turn it on/off.
To turn 3G on and off: click the settings app, click on the General option, click on the Network option, then turn Enable 3G on/off.

Although rereading your post i feel that you already knew how to do this and just wanted an app that can do it without the hassle!
