Seems an appropriate time to bounce this as I believe Naylor is going to run an article about lack of Amex atmosphere in the paper tomorrow.

I firmly believe it is time to drop the 'cringe' and 'embarrassment' thing that many Brighton supporters seem obsessed by and realise that a LACK of atmosphere should make you cringe more than waving a flag or singing a song or anything else that you think is embarrassing.

* Get behind the songs even if they are a bit shit
* Keep the songs going, this is not a reason to cringe
* Waving a flag is not an embarrassment
* If we have a drum for ONE game then get behind it if your red face can handle such utter embarrassment
* Luzzing some ticker tape or bog rolls will not make us the laughing stock of other teams
* Sing in unison rather than being obsessed that your song is not the loudest
* Sing STAND OR FALL not going up as that is the words of the song, on the screen and the club anthem

PLEASE, please, PLEASE can we get rid of that f*cking sh*te Ring of Fire we play directly before kick-off. There is literally no point in it. I suppose some dumwit at the club has thought it may - I don't know - get the crowd 'hyped up'? It does quite literally the opposite - there's 50 fat old men waving their scarfs around in the air like the f*cking morons they are. It's embarrassing.

It's certainly not 'dire' - it's amongst the top in the league for atmo on the whole. I don't know what & where people think these amazing home atmospheres are in England but the Amex isn't bad at all. Dire is MK today - the Amex is 100 times better - no exaggeration. I guess some of this depends on where you sit but the North is pretty loud and when the West get going it sounds incredible. MK offered one song all game - one song with a drum was audible in the away end. That lasted 10 secs max - and yes you could see they were signing and clapping so it wasn't like the sound just wasn't travelling

I agree. Having visited every ground in this division bar Burnley I cannot recall any decent home atmosphere's other than Derby for the playoff second leg (nowhere near as raucous for this season's league fixture). Compared to other clubs in this league the Amex atmosphere is one of the better ones.

That said I do like the idea that we should make an effort for th Burnley game. Just getting the stadium jumping around and the scarves twirling for ring of fire and that will look pretty good, it certainly didn't seem tinpot on saturday.

Far too much precious moaning on this site about A that the atmosphere is dire (it isn't) and B what should be sung. Truth is, it doesn't matter what the song is, just that everyone joins in and keeps it going.

I'm sure we can get it going for Burnley and give the team the boost they need.

it's a simple tune, people join in and does get the crowd hyped up. Worked a treat on saturday.

This is one song that the club picked up from the fans after that epic night in Fulham where the crowd willed the team to victory.

Off the top of my head Orient, Boro, Preston, Bristol City have all been away games where a drum has just become an irritating background noise.

I don't mind the scarf waving but why play it right up to the refs whistle and then drop it like a tonne of sh_t? The crowd's anticipation itself should create a roar. It simply doesn't work and causes confusion.

As previously mentioned. I too am not a fan of the continuous dull thudding drum drowning everything else out. Have a look at some Celtic or German teams use of it though, used to get a chant started or keep it in time, something that we desperately need at the Amex.

Funny enough one of the reasons I like going to the Amex is the good atmosphere.
I go to Germany and watch Schalke 2/3 times a season. The atmosphere there and other German grounds is fantastic. They have there own song that goes on for 5 plus minutes and everyone from 8 to 80 joins in. That is before the game and during game the 10000 standing behind goal keep it going. Cannot think apart from Liverpool anything similar here. With respect so much in England is just moronic chanting which can be amusing eg does your boyfriend etc and we are paying your benefits, stand up if you hate Palace etc etc. but until somebody comes up with a song that everybody can join in with passion things wont change. Maybe like Doncaster game club should supply flags for Burnley game.

What is surprising is that crowds in general have not picked up yet. I've posted before on like-for-like (in terms of date and time of week etc) Oscar era games when compared to the current era, and it is surprising how much down we are this season. Recent example:

Yes, QPR bought more but not nearly 5,000 more.

I'm totally for the montage to ramp things up before the teams come out but for Gods sake please get rid of the deafening music right up to the second the kick off takes place. It totally kills any chance of the atmosphere building and the feeling of the crowd getting behind the lads as the kick-off approaches after we've sung GOSBTS.

We need 5 minutes of zero PA to allow both sets of fans to firstly find their voices, which will encourage others to take their seats, and then to really get going as kick off approaches. Rather than being drowned out by JC, Sussex by the Sea or Norman Cook.
