Still less than the top American Football players get. I'd rather the players get it than the owners.

Perhaps, but most sports (excluding baseball) have caps on salaries. The MLS sort of does but you could argue they dont. Most top players in the NFL, NBA and NHL make around 10-12mil a year which is roughly 118k pounds to 142k pounds a week. When this happens on a team only 2 or 3 players are usually able to makle this amount as the caps come into play. After this the amount the average NFL player makes is much lower and you would never see a hyper team like Man City buy the league and put everyone on insane wages. THe NFL is also a $9 billion (USD) industry and the wages are peanuts in comparison.

I do agree that I would rather the players than owners get it though/

To me ,it just shows that however far we have progressed ,we have miles to go to ever compete with the best .The gap is widening all the time ,and its not to anyones benefit, except for the few players at the very top.

WHat do they actually do with that amount of money? I've always thought, if I earned over 100k a year then I could probably buy within reason pretty much whatever I wanted and live very comfortably.

If they earn that amount in a WEEK, what do they actually spend it on?!

superinjunctions.

Hence may I question your use of the word 'progressed'

I tend to see it as a rather backward step, in that it is setting the premier league apart from all professional football in the UK, (at the expense to be honest of the football league), AND, the figures you quote are somewhat lower than those , as I understand , currently applying to those prima donnas at Eastlands

And for yet another summer transfer window Villa sell of one of their best players. Not much of a surprise to anyone as most thought he was off in January. I am very surprised in the weekly wage as he was on 65k a week at VIlla and has more than doubled that. I dont think he will hack it at manure but only time will tell.

Villa have been a selling club for years, but they've always spent wisely after selling a prize asset. I'm expecting Big Eck, to sign a few Birmingham players with this money.....

Mock tudor mansions, plastic tits for their wives/girlfriends, hair transplants.

It was ever thus.

George Best, asked this exact question once, famously replied:

"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."

Top answer, and probably as true today as it was then.

I hoestly cant get my head around 130k a week!! He is no where near worth that and would be on more than most of the united team bar rooney!! It is the Sun though, i was reading it 3 weeks ago in portugal and they made out that this was a done deal and that he had signed back then along with jones and de gae! 1/3 wasn't bad for them though!
