Small bit at the bottom of the back page of this mornings Argus saying Sean Dyche is remaining tight lipped on a bid being accepted, Naylor`s been reading NSC again.

I'd say it was a credible rumour and would indicate that we've got another attacker lined up.

Well if we have can we just bloody well get him in please. How much longer must we wait. The fact that we have only one fit striker other than Barnes is deeply worrying.

Not long now Zebedee!

Thanks for that. I feel calmer already; and of course it occurs to me that our new striker could be even better than Barnes? Now that would represent progress.

I was one of those holding their breath until I remembered that I had seen Ulloa go down like this 137 times since he joined us ( admittedly, the hand banging the ground is usually a sign of bad news ) Plus a bloke behind me said..." He's Argentinian, they're all the same...he'll be as right as rain in two minutes "
Some people on here are talking as if we are awash with forwards...." if the price is right, let him go " etc....FFS...we are in the worst state of any Championship club for forwards.
1) Ulloa is our main man and very good. But..he will get injured and he will get suspended at some time...guaranteed...it goes with the territory...target man...takes all the buffetting...play-acts...incenses opposition..niggling...some retaliation..
2) CMS...not ready yet...mid-late Sep at best....can't play lone striker role...seen it with Gus...needs 4-4-2...may not get it.
3) Hoskins...out for a very long time...possibly forever.
4) Barnes....all we are left with....decent back-up but not good enough to play any higher than this...contract running down.
5) Barker/Dickenson...not ready yet...not good enough yet.
To say this is thin on the ground is an understatement. Sell Barnes and you would have to bring in two strikers ( We need four ) and I'm not convinced we have the budget for that.
We need to keep Barnes and bring in one quality forward.

Good post.

Kurt Nogan!

I recall him getting both goals for you in a 2-1 win at our place in the early-ish 90s. On the back of that I was delighted when we bought him. In hindsight that was his best game at Turf Moor.

I suspect the fastest King Kurt ever moved for you was when he did a runner from a taxi/curry house/bookies without paying his tab.

Barnes isn't going anywhere until we have a replacement lined up or indeed if we have one lined up.

It would be complete madness to release him at this moment in time as we have no other strikers fit who the manager has any faith in.

Anything a bit more specific on that comment? Are we looking by the weekend do you know?

I reckon if someone's coming in, they'll be here by the 2nd September. Just a hunch, mind – I'm not ITK, or anything...

That would still leave us with two fit strikers, one of whom would have to settle.

2 fit strikers until CMS is back playing, which was predicted to be in 5-6 weeks about 2 weeks ago. So that means that we have to cope with 2 fit strikers playing in a 1 striker system for a maximum of 4 games. We'd have to be really unlucky with injuries for it to cause a major problem.

Almost half his appearances for us have been in midfield. His record when playing up front is actually about 1 in 2.

I wouldn't say midfield. He has been generally played on the left side of a front three, with licence to drift centrally. His record may be 1 in 2 if you include the season in League One, but do you genuinely believe that he would get anywhere near that kind of return in the Championship? Especially in a team who, unlike us, probably don't spend most of the game creating chance after chance?

If the new bloke fits in and settles, and CMS recovers in time to a decent standard.

All it would take is an injury to Ulloa

Anyway, I think if he gets fit CMS will play behing Ulloa.

95% of his appearances are as a wide forward (deffo not stiker) so the fact he scores 'striker numbers' is immense. Agree 1.5M PLUS please! People say he tracks back more than wide MIDFIELDERS like LuaLua so......

Contract issues could be key as he loved Gus but surelywe'd keep him unless got 2 wide forwards coming in?

The key thing for me is that Barnes is still young, still learning and improving. He can switch off trying to complete the most basic of tasks but on the other hand I think his position sense is already pretty good and he can certainly cross the ball far better than most.

I think it would be a mistake letting him go. He's worth his place in the squad and he's only getting better.

The only way it could happen is if he has refused to sign a new contract and we have to get what we can for him.

Year left on his deal is it?

Yes one year - this is the only scenario I can see where we would sell. I don't know how far from fit he is but we really cant only have one striker at the club Shirley?

Good player in the making. I would be very unhappy to see him leave for that.
