If Barnes goes as it seems he will, I am going to be absolutely gutted. Much more than when Murray was allowed to leave. In fact, I can't remember the last time I was this gutted a player was leaving. Even Johnny Byrne to Sunderland didn't leave me that upset because of the inevitability. This one, though, seems entirely preventable.

i feel exactly the same way

Gutted but I'm going to take an attitude that the club knows best and will do whatever is best for BHA in the long term. I have to assume that we have a contingency plan and have offered the limit of whatever we are willing to. I'm guessing the ball is in Barnes' court now. It's not over until it's over though.....

I wonder if all is well on the good ship BHAFC.

Kaz's club / Argus interview yesterday was very 'everyone is happy, loves the manager' - on the same week, we potentially lose 2 key players.

No one has left yet. Bit early for Oscar has lost the dressing room type feelings.

Interesting to see how fans react to the news Barnes has delayed signing a new contract which has been on the table for a while...

Not sure that's exactly news. It's been referenced many times this season that he was offered a contract and hasn't signed it, and has informed the opinion of some people who have taken the 'sell him rather than miss out in the summer' attitude.

If it's not a very good offer, I can understand this.

He might go up there for talks, see what a dump it really is and how good life is currently. Then back down to sunny Brighton & sign a new deal.

if we are serious about promotion surely we don't care too much about the 750k we could make today.

we could make £100m in June, and he could help that happen.

i thought Bloom played poker?

We've known for months though haven't we?
At a guess no-one really minds, and find it a bit odd we didn't just give a longer deal last time

Barnes was offered a contract extension....... He didn't sign it.

He could leave in the summer for nothing, the club are cashing in which makes perfect business sense.

All I would say is.... By Brighton accepting Burnleys offer, this may be a forcing a decision from Barmes one way or the other, I have a sneaking suspicion that Barnes actually wants to stay and the fact the club are prepared to accept an offer for him will now force his hand and result in him signing the contract that's been on the table for a few months, rather than the improved offer he was hoping for.

Barnes for Conway? I like Conway, but I'd much much rather keep Ash.

Not for me. Conway has far more about him going forward in my opinion. Proper winger, can play either side, and seems to be fit.... something our current wide men struggle with.

If we have Conway, Orlandi, Kaz and Buckley fit the chances of Barnes starting on the left are slim.

And he wont get in up front ahead of Ulloa.

I understand its a squad game, but he just isnt going to get much match time, so I really dont blame him for going.

I hate players who are just happy to pick up a pay check and sit on the bench, so I admire him for going.

And wish him good luck, except against us.

not a like for like. If you were saying Buckley or Conway then that is like for like, and after 1 game I might well pick March!

They could be a similar transfer fee though. If selling Barnes is just so we can get enough funds to buy Conway, I'm not sure I'm overly happy about that. UNLESS we have another decent striker lined up additional to that.

Very much this. Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of the contract negotiations, and I do trust TB is doing what he feels is best for the club, but it almost feels like we haven't learned from the mistake we made with Murray. It's all good and well saying we will get a replacement in etc, but as we found out after Murray that can prove very difficult.
