Hi all,

I've been regularly updating a thread with guests on a new Brighton & Hove Albion podcast, called Football, the Albion and Me.

If you're not familiar with it yet, the idea is to talk to former Albion players and coaches about their all-round careers, get them to pick a 5-a-side team from the players they've played with throughout their career, and get to know them off the pitch too. Previous guests have included Peter Ward, Garry Nelson and Tommy Elphick - loads of great guests lined up too.

This week's podcast is with Ashley Barnes, who to my knowledge (and his!) gives his first detailed account of his time at Brighton since leaving the club...and he didn't want to go.

Ashley talks about his love for the club, being a 'marmite' player, the Premier League re-start and hopes of an England call-up.

Is the big reveal that he's actually Mr Burns?

Enjoyed that, we made a big mistake letting him go, or more likely pushing him out

For me also, yours has become the best Albion-related podcast out there. That isn't to denigrate the others, but it is a little frustrating when 2 or 3 participants start talking over each other, or the pod seems to be more about the views of the regular presenter(s) than the guests. And I've noticed with the BBC pod that when Johnny Cantor asks a question it is more like an essay (let the guest speak for crying out loud).

I think you have it pretty much spot on Rich - simple format, taking the guest chronologically through his career, asking short and simple questions and giving the guest time to answer, in full.

Thanks for taking the time to produce these, and more power to your elbow.

Great interview.
Plenty in there I didn’t know and had been curious about.
Sounds like he will do a Bobby and come back when he’s old and past it!

But was going to Burnley the making of him? It’s a tough one

I imagine being played as an out and out striker was the making of him

Burnley’s style does suit him though. I think he’d have done very well in a CH team as well.

Ashley was an excellent player for us and infuriating opponent, I have always liked him. This pod will make my workday rotation today

He certainly sounded open, even keen, for a return. It's probably unfair to categorise him as a player who only fits into a system like Burnley's having performed pretty well in a system like Poyet's.

Barnes would be a great replacement for Murray when the time eventually comes, in my opinion.

I really appreciate that, thank you, and glad you like the format. As I keep mentioning (apologies), please do spread the word - it's more followers, listeners and subscriptions that'll keep this going and keep the quality of the guests up too.

I'm fortunate that the club are semi on-board with this and have featured some interviews on the official site too - just need to keep the momentum going in an (increasingly) crowded market.

Many thanks again.
