Don't know why we needed another Ashley Barnes thread. Could this not be merged with the other one? If he scores a goal again in the distant future we'll have two threads bouncing around wishing he still played for us now.

Can’t stand Burnley or the stupid ginger dalek, but I’m always quite pleased when AB scores a goal. I can’t help but like the lad.
Exactly.

When people praise 'little' Burnley for their achievements, I wonder if they regularly watch the team. They use every trick in the book, and the football is not enjoyable.

I think when Dyche eventually leaves, he's going to have the same problems finding another job as Hughton - yes he's effective, but at what cost?

Irrelevant. Not our player anymore

Forgive me gents, but why do you bother opening this sort of thread, reading the posts and then commenting? It may be irrelevant to you, but perhaps not everyone? Do you post on every other thread that you aren’t interested in or that are duplicate threads? Genuinely don’t understand your motivation for commenting?

I don't open threads I'm not interested in.
In my opinion Ashley Barnes is the most over rated Albion player in the last 40 years. I love the Albion therefore I have an interest.

Oh I know people went absolutely mental .. I remember it well

But someone posted a brilliant picture captioned 'He may be an idiot, but he's our idiot'. :lolol:

Good luck to him. One of the very few who scored 20 plus league goals in a season for the Albion. And in one of only two seasons when we had two players scoring 20 plus league goals in the same season

The money they have available.

Like us, Burnley survived the fourth tier on the last day of the season not that long ago. Unlike us, they don't have a massive catchment area and a sufficient number of rich fans willing to drag a club out of an abyss. Their achievement is remarkable. It is bound to be ugly though, as those of us who have watched the Albion up there will understand only too easily. Good luck to Burnley and to AB. Except when it matters to us, of course.

So how the **** has the most over rated player in 40 years managed to be a Premier League starter for 4 or 5 seasons? Until we got to the PL I’m not sure we had more than a handful of players in the last 40 years who even got a game at the top level

Over rated doesn't mean worst.
I just feel that we have had better options up front since he left and don't understand the wish to have him back.
He hasn't really scored that many goals in the top two divisions.
He didn't score that many the year we walked promotion at Withdean really.
Now 7 games without a goal or assist.

I admire Barnes, he gets better with age. His Prem goal return per season reads 5, then 6, 9,12 and now 4 in 10 so on course for 15.

Austria's decision to deny him a passport is the worst thing to happen to that country since the Anschluss.

Barnes did what every player would love to do to a ref. It was very tempting and at least he waited until the end of the game.

Close to the end yeah.

I think it was that red plus the one a few games before which he got for kicking out against Sheff Weds that turned a few against him.

You really think Hughton has had problems finding another job? I believe he has turned down jobs. After all he's made enough money in his lifetime, so doesn't actually need to work.

I was at that game and we couldn't see what the card was for. It was so innocuous that we thought it must have been for swearing at the ref. Not one away fan went mental. Keyboard warriors might have done, but those of us that were there certainly didn't.

He scored 20 goals in the 2010/11 season.

I was there and it was as a tasty challenge. However prior to this Sheffield had been kick lumps out of us for 15 minutes.

Watch it again, it is a terrible foul, on a par with about 4 others prior to that, all the other way.

Really really poor and inconsistent refereeing.

Don’t have a problem with Barnes, was decent for us and often played out of position.

However does make me laugh how some of his biggest fans on here were beyond critical of Andone’s attitude and temperament when Barnes was sent off for deliberately tripping a REF !!!!

He didn’t deliberately trip the ref as anyone who was there will testify.
