Thought I would post this for all the posters in recent weeks who have found it funny to take a pop at “window lickers“.

The hidden scars of war: one in 10 British combat veterans suffers from mental illness

“As many as one in 10 soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan – a much higher proportion than previously expected – will develop a mental health problem due to the stress and horror of combat, according to the head of one of Britain's leading forces' health organisations“.
ps that doesnt include those who choose a different way out.

Remembrance Day

Falkland suicides 'now more than killed in action'
Monday, 14 January 2002

More veterans of the Falklands War have committed suicide since 1982 than were originally killed in action, a support group has claimed.

Your post is flawed. It refers to mental health and mental illness. Such as stress, neurosis, psychiatric problems. The ghastly term 'window licker' refers to those with mental disabilities or severe learning difficulties, not mental illness.

Sorry to say we have lost the battle of the threads to "so how many of you wore water proof trousers"?

Seems much more interesting to NSC posters than this thread. ???

The Soldier

If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven
.

I watched Michael Palin's program last night on what happened on the last day of the 1st world war. Despite the generals on both sides knowing that the ceasfire was to start at 11am they still continued to send men over the top to fight for a few meters of land. It is thought as many as 10,000 died in the final few hours before 11am.
