Arteta would consider playing for England

I suppose that my view is the more traditional one, that you should have been born in a country or have direct links to it via your parents to qualify as an international, or possibly have spent the majority of your life there. This would allow someone who came to the UK as an infant, when the choice was not theirs, to qualify...thus allowing someone who was a refugee having severed all links with the country they were born in...but not a person who moved of their own choice as an adult...like Arteta.

If Arteta plays for England then the FA would have sunk to a new low. On that basis I expect it to happen.

Germany pick and choose?

Podolski and Klose have lived there pretty much all their lives, Ozil and that other chap that joined Real Madrid are both German by birth, as are the Boatengs. Except the Pikey chav one chose to play for Ghana.

Was watching Aaron Hunt play the other night....could it be the next Owen Hargreaves? - No....the krauts have already capped him.

And Cacau?

Born in BRAZIL, to BRAZILIAN parents, grew up in BRAZIL, and moved to Germany in his twenties, and was awarded German citizenship at the age of 27, making his debut a few weeks later...

I also got the impression from that interview that he was just being polite. I rate Arteta but we don't need to resort to bringing him into the England team - just like we didn't with Cudicini or Almunia. It's just media talk.

Of course EU rules state that he qualifies for BRITAIN, so he could play for Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland as well. Wonder if one of those would pick him, or whether he would politely refuse....

Shame Jack Charlton's not still in charge of the Republic, otherwise I'm sure MICHAEL O'TETA would get in his side...
