I was just on the phone to a mate and he was telling me that apparently Arsenal's new ground received more opposition than Falmer but they still got it. Should we be making this point more or is not even true?

I doubt there are any areas of outstanding national beauty in North London.

And I am sure they are a club of national interest.

very true but Arsenal's new ground is being built on railway and warehouse wasteland and i don't think it was called in by Prescott

Just another of life's injustices. If you live in a run-down inner city area, surrounded by industrial wasteland, you have no influence over local planning. But if you live in nice, leafy suburbs...

slington council backed the proposal but they set loads of "Planning Gain " requirements beforehand....which has led to the £700 million stadium.

I don't remeber it getting called in. But Hull's did and Precott backed it. In fact I think nearly all stadiums have been backed by Precott.

Is anyone lobbying Tony Banks????

I think there was a Compulsory Purchase Inquiry where the Inspector recommended against compulsory purchase (not in the national interest) but Prescott had a mind to disagree (from memory).

The residents who are opposed to the new ground for the Gunners have be given the go ahead for a judicial verdict, so it is not over just yet.
Prescott did refuse Barnet a new ground.

According to talksport yesterday the local planning officer ruled advised against the ground but Prescott approved it. Hope this is true.

I heard this too - and I have to say it lifted quite a lot of the gloom...

I KNOW there are differences in the two applications/locations etc., but at least there is some sort of precedent, and therefore some sort of hope to cling on to..!!
