Since most of these stories are either extrapolated from the flimsiest of evidence, copied from other clickbait websites, or completely made up,

I don't regard The Athletic as either clickbait or being run on flimsy evidence. Nothing more will happen openly until after the Euros. Then I am sorry to say BW will be off. TBH looking at how our club is run and the ambitions it has BW may be making a mistake. Sure he can become an important cog in a big wheel like Utd or City etc, or he could play an truly remarkable role in helping this club take on these teams and succeed, but then the bank balance would be far less.

Despite all the rumours circulating that Ben White is leaving for £50m (latest figure) to go to (fill in name of interested club as there seem to be lots) I just wonder about Tony Bloom’s stance on this. Tony’s desire is for us to be a top ten Premier League club. For that to happen we would surely need our best players to stay and make the team as strong as possible. If this is the case and we do achieve a top ten spot then I would imagine the value of our star players would increase accordingly. Hypothetically Ben White’s value might then increase from the £50m of now to, say, £70m in a year’s time.

Time for Tony to play poker then. Bring it on.

el punal the Albion have already said that the model will be to cultivate talent and then sell it. That's how they see us competing with the oil state backed clubs. Selling those players gives us the funds to buy game changing players in critical positions that our "system" may not yet be able to fill. We we'll sell players, but on our terms. This means we'll also attract more young talent (like this Spanish, Ecuadorian, South London chap).

So brace yourself. Well get to top 10 in the back of funds raised by selling payers like Ben White, not by hoarding them.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see White stay and Biss sold for a fortune with no rumours of it until the transfer is signed and delivered

Maybe BW noises will turn out to be a red herring

Similar to how Leicester made the next step. All the time we have players like White and Bissouma to sell we have we have a chance of moving up in the world.

Why ‘sorry to say’ ? It’s precisely the club’s intended strategy………….

He's sorry because with only: -

Veltman.
BDB.
Ostigard.
Van Heck
Clarke.
2 other league centre backs
At least 4 centre backs in the yoof set up.

We're down to the bare bones when it comes to replacing him.

That's not true though, is it. Leicester weren't shipping players out for mega bucks until after they won the Premier League.

In fact their "model" was the complete opposite of our intended one, they acquired, through good recruitment a good team, who with a huge slice of luck of the Top 6 all miss-firing at the same time, were able to win the league.

Since then they have bought and sold big...

Winning the Premier league was a once in a life time un-planned happence. What happened after that is what made it more planned and sustainable. I am not saying we shouldn't spend the transfer money we bring in either that is how we make the step up.

I don’t think the two approaches are inconsistent. We keep hold of our best talent until someone pays the offer. If the interest from several top clubs is to be believed then there are multiple bids at 50m which means that the offer will be nearer 75m. Tony is an expert in bid/offer spreads in his probability based gambling business.

I agree with speculate to accumulate, but don't feel Leicester should be held up as a how to win the league business model...

Nah, not to win the league, that was a perfect storm. How to take a club to the next level, that I think they have been spot on. Not afraid to sell and not afraid to spend that money.

Now if you had said Southampton, that would have been different, their policies would normally be held up as a business model for the smaller teams...

In fact, what teams have applied the sell your best players to rise up the league policy, buy cheap sell big - I guess Arsenal had some success on this front, but safe in the knowledge they could go big if needed.

It is much easier to pick up defenders and midfielders for smaller fees and sell on for significant margins than attacking players which generally cost much more.

We have a solid history of sourcing top level defenders so selling players like white to help fund the more difficult positions to recruit is all part of the strategy of the club.

Growing talent and moving them on to big clubs when the time is right also strengthens the attraction of top young talent to the club which increases the number of players on the conveyor belt.

If we get to where Tony wants us to be then it will be easier to retain players but at this time we are a sell and grow club

But, we do need to shift players on or our promise to the young talent won't be true. I suspect that (an over simplified version of) our appeal to younger talent is that they'll get the opportunity for game time, maybe initially through laons, but in the first team as soon as we can, they'll develop quickly and be in the shop window. If we hang onto those players simply because we aren't being offered extreme, silly money, the source will dry up. It's a fine balance and it's why the "Ben White being haggled over" story probably actually suits us. High visibility example of what we are proposing to Jeremy et al.

That's not the policy though, is it. Best isn't the game here - valuable is the game.

The policy is sell players where you can make a huge profit (having spotted them young and developed them) and where you already have equivalent players pushing through to replace them and potentially repeat the cycle.

In the case of Biss, we have, we hope, plenty of young talent already in the club to replace him. The same with Ben White (potentially already better players in his case). What we wouldn't do is sell valuable players where we either (a) don't already have strength behind, and would potentially make us vulnerable or (b) where we feel a player has a lot further value to develop (eg Ben White last Summer).

If we can balance all the massively fluid moving parts, it's a superb model for the club.

One collateral impact of this is that there will be a steady flow of very talented, but didn't quite make it or get the opportunity, that we will have to move on. We're seeing a lot of names this summer where highly promising young players, some of whom cost a mill or two, might be released. Our model is definitely a numbers game.

It's still a hard decision to be made, depending on the offers coming in, do we sell White, Bissouma or both just now or hold onto one or both for another year (with new contracts ) and hopefully increase their values even further

If only we had one of the best Gamblers and Businessmen in the world to decide and negotiate on our behalf .......................... oh

:)
