The reason for White over Dunk is simply his versatility, whilst Lewis is probably one of the best centre backs in the league, Ben can play full back and midfield.

It’s why Eric Dier seems to always get picked!

With so many injuries I think there is a reasonable chance white could be picked for the initial 30 , whether he remains in the final 26 is another matter . Dunk won’t be picked , Southgate looked at him a lot and clearly for some unknown reason doesn’t like him enough . No idea why .

Dunk is . Webster had moments where he is but still gives away the ball and chances every single game . Wouldnt be good for him if he did that for England and we went out .

If there are any other English back threes in the PL, there are none better than ours - our defensive record must currently be as good as any in the league. There is a good case to play all three. I don’t think they would let the country down. The only one likely to let the country down is Southgate.

Reports also said he was being considered instead of Eric Dier. Phillips being fit doesn’t automatically end his chances, I’d be very surprised now if Ben isn’t included in the expanded squad today. I don’t know if he’ll make the final 26 man squad but being able to cover 3 positions may increase his chances of picking up one of those extra 3 places.

If he doesn’t make the 26 man squad he’ll probably be put on stand by because the rules allow for changes to the squad up till the day of England’s first game and if there are continued doubts about fitness to the likes of Maguire and Phillips it would make sense to keep him as an option.

All of that said I’d still take Dunk over White, but he must have taken the piss out of Southgate waist coat or something to still not have had a second call up.

Good luck to Ben and I think he has great potential, but at this particular moment in time, I think our other two are better.
