Delighted for Ben but seems odd bearing in mind the lack of midfielders and Henderson`s obvious fitness issues.

Maybe Southgate saw that White was head and shoulders above Mings.

This is great for Ben and the club, fully deserved.

Dunk over Mings and Coady would have been fully deserved too but there you go, Southgate is only human and makes mistakes.

Fantastic News for BW. Thoroughly deserved.

Now Southgate needs to break the news Mings, Henderson and Slab head can all stay at home. Ward Prowse deserves to be in there.

Bugger. That's going to cost me a fortune on anytime scorer bets :lolol:

Can he score for England before scoring for his club?

I think you're right.

Logically, Lingard or JWP made sense, but only if Southgate had no concerns about central defence and Mings (and Maguire).

I think the fact he's ended up going for Ben instead of either of those two is an unspoken acknowledgment that England has a self-created problem in Mings & Maguire.

Delighted for Ben, still gutted for Lewis though. He should still be there instead of the Ming The Useless.

This is phenomenal news, it's great experience for Ben & will only add to his value. I also believe he will have a serious chance of playing some minutes given how crap Mings is.

I can see why some are questioning why we aren't taking Ward-Prowse for his set piece ability, but to be honest I think England's main issue as in the World Cup, is their defence.

Well yes, but Southgate lost TAA to injury, Mings to shiteness and Henderson to insubordination all in a few days. He needed someone right footed who is comfortable both in defence and midfield. Seems more logical to take White than JWP (although I feel circumstances rather than his ability has led JWP not going).

Likewise, I’ve started doing 2 or more goal last season for our defenders. Shall I just suspend my account now to avoid wasting even more wedge.

No doubt that Southgate cocked up big time by blinkeredly sticking to his tried and tested defenders who everyone else knows are pretty useless. He must have watched the last couple of game and thought “oh, sh*t” I should have selected the Brighton back three. Still, he has now got 1/3 of them.
Good luck Ben - my fingers will be crossed for you get get a lot of match time.
He looked so comfortable yesterday - the nearest thing I have seen in an England shirt to Bobby Moore in terms of reading the game and composure.

Sensational for Ben & the Club. But it’s frankly ridiculous that England’s defensive unit is unbalanced and made up of (badly) injured and out of form and players. Really Very poor selection and management.

Congratulations Ben! A proud moment. Got to be above Mings in the pecking order surely?

Southgate has got a harder job this tournament but he is coming across as weak in my opinion. Won’t drop out of form players, taking injured dressing room personalities and overstocking in certain positions because of ability rather than necessity. Seeing as he’s letting the champions league players have a long rest after the final, it’ll be interesting to see how they gel in the first match.
