As long as the economics of the game are what they are, and the EPL is what it is, there'll be massive stockpiling of unplayed talent at the highest levels.

Everybody below about 6th-10th in the EPL is one big development squad.

Almost correct Rex, everyone below Real Madrid and Barcelona is one big development squad. The sooner we adopt the US draft system in this country the better - give Arsenal a taste of life in the lower leagues while Burton Albion get a chance to compete in the European Cup.

Hall was out of contract, thus compensation. Walton is under contract for two more years, so Arsenal would have to make us a substantial offer.

Fair enough, I wasn't sure what length or type of contract he was on. Good news anyway as the club are in a good bargaining position.

Seeing as Southampton, 8th in the Premier League, are either a feeder club or being asset striped.
You've got to wonder why so many panties are being moistened on this thread.

If Arsenal want him enough, they'll get him, simple economics.

Our only hope, for all our youth players is the promise of first team football and a fairly hefty wage, is preferable to no football and a massive wage.
Though that's unlikely to sit well with a non-paid agent.

We can safely say irrespective of how much Walton is worth, to Arsenal, it'll not be the same as replacing him.

Horrible news, even if he wasn't supposed to be our first keeper.

As we all know, in football it is more important to replace the weakest link in the team than to sign a superstar, so at the moment we need a decent goalkeeper the most. It has to be the next signing, and it has to be as good a player as possible, taking into account the level we play at and the wage limit (sorry for stating the obvious, but I would be much calmer if we already had a new first team keeper).

We don't know what Arsenal want to offer yet , it may be too good to turn down.

Just give him his chance like we have with the other youngsters. Can't be no worse than Ankerclown.
But certainly won't do better or be on a par with Tommy K.

The other youngsters aren't goalkeepers.
It'll be good to see what he can do, but nobody is going to gamble the season on him.

This just another "story" not based on any facts, as far as we know, used to fill up one paragraph in a paper.

If Walton is sensibly advised, as JFC was by Fozzie, he will stay where he is and see what happens when the new manager arrives. CW has only just hit the headlines by making the England U/19 team and has suddenly been exposed to publicity and media interest as a result. He is far too young to be sent to Arsenal, who will throw him out in a year if he does not make their perception of the grade in a year.

When are we then? When he's 30 maybe. Age shouldn't matter, If Arsenal take him then they'll loan him out to probably a championship side.

It does matter when talking about the only position in which you can't hide.
seagurn has the right idea in posts 26 & 33!!

Another senior goalkeeper will be coming in, it'll be up to Walton to take his place, and keep it.

Rather short sighted for me.

Let's all think medium to long term with this and do our very best to keep him.
