Arsenal players that pledge loyalty one year and go elsewhere the next

Am I blind or the players they buy back stabbing arse hats? lets start with henry.

Henry was what can only be described 'fiercely loyal' to arsenal. At press conferences he silenced claims and rumours that he was off to Barcelona. He even had Fabregas as his protégé. Less than a year or two later, he went off to barcelona

Fabregas is going the same way, swearing that he would never go to barcelona, and yet, a couple of years later, he's off down to the Nou Camp to join them (most likely).

Now we have the two that were happy to leave for city, Nasri and Vieira. Can't say much about those two, because they're great players. The HUGEST problem I have is with the last one.

Adebayor left arsenal on the pretence that the fans were being out of order to him. 'Racist' was the call. When he joined city he was still saying how people are racist to him. There was a fly in the ointment - he was playing the race card and overreacting.

My point is that too many arsenal players pack off to the teams they said they wouldn't even consider, and of course, closer to home, Muzza buggered off to palace!!

And it's annoying really when someone promises something and does the opposite. More often than not I find they always make some bullshit excuse as to why they left. The importance of working as a team is what carries you through football, not a couple of dickhead strikers who say 'look at me! I AM the team!' Makes you wonder why they are bought in the first place, aside from the obvious.

Do feel sorry for Arsenal and of course the Arsenal fans. Loosing their two best players and now probably not gonna finnish in the top 4 .

The truth about Henry is after the CL Final he spoke to Wenger about the future and was told that they were going to go for a young team and so with his age it looked unlikely that they would win the CL.He had the choice to stay or go, at his age it was the only big medal missing, the Arsenal fans don't blame him for going and time has shown he was correct asWenger took the team apart.. So no he didn't stab the club in the back.

Fabregas was always, always, always going to end up back at Barca. I'm surprised it had taken as many transfer windows as it has done to seemingly be concluded, but this was the only way it was ever going to end.

Think about it from his POV - the club you supported and idolised as a boy, not to mention the biggest club on the planet at this stage, want to make you a marquee signing and bring you in to play (albeit probably not regularly at first) in front of your home fans, and you'll almost certainly enjoy more success than you'll ever get at your current club - who the hell WOULDN'T make that move?

A few things, Wenger sold Henry. Not because he was forced to, but because he thought he was past his best. Fabregas, was ALWAYS going to go back to Barca. Vieira went to Italy first because Wenger chose to sell him as he was also past his best. Adebayor left for the same reason he will leave City if anyone matches his silly wages: he's not a team player and Arsenal sold him for a huge profit. Nasri is a mercenary.

The only players who promised to stay were Vieira and Henry, both whom Wenger sold through choice.

As for Murray, he was never going to stay and never said he was. Plus, I don't think Gus really wanted to keep him.

However, I agree with your point. It really irks me when players pleadge loyalty then feck off. Wayne Rooney is a better example... Remember "Once a blue always a blue"?

I have some sympathy for the gunners, they have tried to do things somewhat properly, not letting finances go the way of Chelsea/ManC and also trying to place pretty football (the game is about entertainment after all). I can't place the blame at Wenger either, although he does need a "plan b" that isn't walking the ball into the goal.

Hasn't this comment been made EVERY YEAR since 2005? Arsenal still have some exceptional players that would walk into most clubs. Vermaelen, Song, Wilshire, van Persie at least are top, top players.

True. For many years the justification was, rightly, because they had spend a shedload on a new stadium and didn't want to end up in a dire financial situation like many clubs. This is good for the long term, however in the short term it limits their budget. We are probably getting to the stage now where it's approaching the middle term and they may need to start spending more. They do have to spend wisely though, not just blast the budget like Man C.

I certainly do NOT support Arsenal - my dad does and so does quite a few people I know, so I'm "aware" of issues at Arsenal, that's all.

Anyway, why did you step anywhere near a non-Brighton thread and make silly comments? Are you feeling that insecure about your own loyalty to the Seagulls?

Not really fair to list Henry there. He's done a lot for Arsenal and it was arguably good business sense to sell him when they did.

The problem is the likes of Adebayor, Flamini, Edu etc who are average for a season or two, but Wenger puts faith in them and when they finally have a good season they jump ship. Meaning the team can never develop to the level where they are properly competitive anymore.

This. Wenger is obsessed with stats and as soon as he saw his stats falling in training he knew it was time to sell him. He made the right decision. Wenger has a knack of buying someone for 3 million and turning them into someone worth 15 plus! He's had his mistakes a long the road but I believe he's one of the best managers out there. It all comes down to money at the end of the day. It shocks me how many players would rather sit on the bench at Man City and the like than play brilliant football at Arsenal.

I was born in Sussex, I love the place and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I have a Seagull/BHAFC tattoo and also a Sussex-based tattoo. I went to the Goldstone for my first Albion game in 1993, at the age of 9, and have loved them ever since.

I may follow another team beside the Albion, but a plastic I am sure as hell not.
