Before the game on Saturday we went to The Arkles pub for a couple. First round, two pints of Guinness £10.10, when I went up later it was £11.20, when I queried this I was told Guinness is £5.55 a pint. When I went up again I was told by the barman they increase the price on matchdays. So, on March 30th if you're happy to be charged 10 percent more for your beer, be packed in like sardines and wait god knows how long to be served, go to Arkles. If, like me, you don't go somewhere else.

We went to the halfway house post-match. £15 for 4 beers and a coke and the locals were great. Bar staff gave us free shots as we left too.

Never really got that, they sell a product at a price. You’d think they’d be grateful to, one day a week sell lots and lots of said product of which incorporated in the price is a profit margin.

Thing is, fans are there to be openly ripped off as most of us including myself, pay basically anything, to initially be ignored at the bar, then be served warm beer, in a plastic cup, in an overpacked environment.

As a landlord I get it.
Transient customers ARE different. One of my pubs has both City and Rovers (Bristol) supporters and away fans visiting and as a football man I love it, but there is a clear difference between a group never likely to visit your pub again (or at least sparingly) Vs regulars and locals. There is always more mess to clear up, the building (especially toilets) does take more impact, we lose more glasses and there's a hell of a lot more crowd management compared to a match free Saturday lunchtime.
Personally I wouldn't have surge pricing and from a customers point of view I totally get it. But it's a bloody tough industry right now. I don't think adding 50p on a pint when you consider the above is that outrageous.

It is, and I’ll do what I can to save my local (I.e in the last 3 or 4 years I’ve avoided Wetherspoons) however, the pub isn’t a charity and the consumer only has limited funds and basically, needs to get the most out of it.

If you take that pub/bar at Wembley that looks like a shop front (I haven’t been in there for 15 years)
They’d put their prices up to top dollar then bouncers would shoo you out the back so you’d be drinking out of a plastic cup in a back yard.
Seriously, it was no upgrade from getting a four pack and sitting on a wall, yet the place would get rammed.

Like questioning why your pint cost £1 more than the last guy's and finding out you're being charged a 25% Twat Tax.

I'm tempted to say you went to the wrong pub as the Ship and Mitre was excellent. That said, I cannot actually remember what I paid for a pint there. Or much of Saturday.

Oh Lordy, the opening line is a bit harsh, I’m trying to see things from a punter perspective and is it that wrong that someone should dare try and get a bit of value from their hard earned cash? some on here are only on wages.

It's not wrong at all. It's tough at the moment for everyone. And I am as much of a punter as anyone.
But I would just be hesitant to assume that if a pub has a policy like this it's going into the landlords retirement fund.
I've never had to be so aware of pricing. I'm constantly trying to work out what I can raise, how much I can raise it by whilst totally prioritising the customer.

PWK SAYS : Please don’t get me wrong, as I’ve commented re:Wetherspoons I’ll happily pay a couple of quid more per drink for a decent pub and my Mrs certainly will, it’s just, generally speaking the away fans get dumped on. Wolverhampton is a classic example (yes, I admit a little bit of research is helpful, but most fans get off the train and go where they’re told)

We went into Wetherspoons before the match and honest to God the Guinness was £3.31 a pint.
My Guinness, my brother’s Leffe, and our mate’s Neck Oil was £11.60

I thought I’d gone back to the 90s.
