Has there ever been a country with so many quality strikers in their team?

Messi - World player of the year
Tevez - £30 million signing, top premership striker
Milito - Scored two goals in the champions league final. Top striker.
Higuain - Real Madrids regular starting striker.
Aguero - Banging the goals in, in Spain. Wanted by the big boys in England
Palermo - Scored 98 goals in 175 games for Boca Juniors.

Has there ever been this much talent in one position before?

In 18 months, Maradona has used 108 players.

World Cup 2010: Is there method in Diego Maradona's madness? | Football | guardian.co.uk

"Of the lesser lights who made the plane instead, Ariel Garcé has become symbolic of Maradona's unconventional approach. The story sounds apocryphal, but it has been reported that the defender who helped Colón finish 14th in the Argentinian league was included because Maradona had a dream that his team won the World Cup and the only face he could remember being there was Garcé's. The 30-year-old has only four caps. Three came during friendlies in 2003, and one came this year against Haiti."

That will be a close bet as Maradona hasn't got a clue as a manager, he didn't even pick Cambiasso or Zanneti for his squad.

maradona is either going to come up with an utterly stupid tactic that is so flair it works, or it is going to mean that arguably the biggest amount of fire power ever to go to a world cup gets nowhere

whichever way you look it, argentina already look the hot favourites for the flair award

the comment i most enjoyed was that the other week he played a bloke "because he saw his face in a dream"

an argentina v france second round game would be utterly brilliant - diego "i saw his face in a dream" maradona v raymond "i distrust scorpios" domenech would be the tactical battle to end all tactical battles

They also have players like Lisandro and Levezzi that didn't make the squad. Eye watering amounts of talent.

Palermo is shite though.

Saw this t-shirt in Argentina, proof that Maradonna is mocked from time to time in that country and that they have a sense of humour...mind you they didn't lose the game!

Palermo was regarded as a bit of a joke pick, by all accounts, as was a 30 year old defender from the Argentinian equivalent of, let's say, Stoke City, who has only ever won four caps, one in an exhibition game.

If Maradona could actually get those strikers playing well, they'd be dynamite. But he rarely does.

And picked on the basis of a dream.

Still, despite some strange selections (and exclusions) they have had a couple of decent results under Maradona, and did actually qualify which at one point was looking in doubt, they played shite but no worse than before he came in. Also they have a relatively easy group, and once a team with so much talent gets going they could be difficult to stop - remember France coming within a penalty shoot out of the World Cup with Domenech in charge?

It's the best array of attacking players I've ever seen. If they can find a way to get 3 of them on the field and 'clicking' they'll score a lot of goals. If they had a more experienced/less mental manager they'd surely be favourites.

I completely forgot about that! I remember an interview with ex Barca winger Ludovic Guily in which he said Domenech had told him he wouldn't be in the the 2002/2006 squad (can't remember which) because of his star sign. Bonkers.
