There's a good chance the ex-pat pub team I played for in my mid 30s would have beaten the Thais.

Cricket rained off so watched a bit of USA vs Chile 2nd half. Yet another poor VAR decision to give the US a penalty. An accredited referee looks at the incident on TV, and duly makes an absolute howler of a decision. Bizarre. Inexplicable.

Spain's reward for drawing against China and finishing 2nd in the group? A likely last 16 game against the USA. China are probably happier.

Even at this stage, the prospective France v USA QF in Paris is looking like the tie of the tournament.

Here's a predictive and admittedly speculative path to Women's World Cup success if England avoid defeat against Japan on Wednesday:

England win Group D, England's last 16 opponents (Sun 23rd June, Valenciennes): China or Cameroon/New Zealand or Chile/Thailand

Win the last 16 game, England's likely QF opponents (Thu 27th June, Le Havre): Norway or Italy/Brazil/Australia

Win the Quarter-Final: England's likely SF opponents (Tue 2nd July, Lyon): France or USA

Win the Semi-Final: England's likely Final opponents (Sun 7th July, Lyon): Germany, Canada, Netherlands or Japan

...so what you're saying is England could pretty much play err, anybody? :lolol:

It was a shocker wasn't it ? How on EARTH could that have been deemed a handball ? Its getting ridiculous, the ball must've travelled all of a yard, and the defender wasn't even looking, it just happened to brush her arm. Of course, the VAR freeze-frame they showed looked like she was holding the bloody thing in the crook of her arm, but in real time, it literally just skimmed past her.

Almost as bad as that winning Australian own goal the other night, when the lino (correctly) flagged for offside after the defender headed it in. Then VAR look at it, and inexplicably decided the Aussie forward wasn't interfering with play, even though the ball was travelling DIRECTLY towards her, which is exactly why the defender had to try to head it away.

We are seeing some VAR shockers in this tournament, far worse than in last years WC.

always in this and mens big tournaments such an element of luck in who you play and if easy or hard group. Think system in the World cup cricket very good when everyone plays each other and top 4 go through Not easy in football when 20ish teams

Such are the challenges of predictions. :)

I was thinking about stopping after the SF, but thought that a few might see it as unpatriotic. So,'in for a penny'...

Wins against France or USA and then eventual success in the Final would be great and hopefully reverse the fall in domestic attendances.

But it still wouldn't eliminate '53 years of hurt' in the minds of many, however much the BBC would no doubt claim to the contrary.

VAR - ****ing disgrace.

Ruining football!

Can’t believe a penalty was retaken having been missed after the Nigerian keeper inched off the line.

France have just got the softest penalty after VAR. And then got to take it again after it had been missed

The organisers really want France through

Turned it off after the VAR rubbish.

Why not just give the French the cup now?

If this is what video refereeing gives the game, the game is finished.
