I abhor racism in any form. But what I cannot understand is why it is only classed as racism if directed at a black or asian person?

Example. On Big Brother last year, Nikki Grahame repeatedly mocked the Canadian guy Richard's accent and referred to him as a "Yank" In a similar way in which Jade and co are bullying Shilpa. Yet Nikki leaves the house a national heroine. If I was Richard I'd have been bloody offended!

Which is why I think some people over-react the moment an Indian/Muslim person is put down in any way and scream "IT'S RACIST, IT'S RACIST!!!" I might find an Indian woman unattractive and think she's a "dog". At the same time, I might find a white woman a "dog" - how is it racist?

There are white idiots and there are brown/black/whatever idiots. You can find examples of stupidy anywhere you look, this shouldn't draw attention away from the fact that in any society, it is the minority that bears the brunt of racism.

It's not quite the same though is it cos a lot of people who live here and have brought up families here have the piss taken out of their accents and they ain't Canadians. There is a track record of racist piss taking out of say Indian people in this country but noone has ever chased groups of Canadians down the street or shoved shit through their letter boxes. It's all very well saying it's the same cos on paper it is, but it's like the word Paki. You'll never get away from the fact that that word was/is mostly used in the UK to insult.

I went for option 4 as well. A lot of people seem to confuse general banter with racism ( as proved in the "muslim lady knocked on my door" thread) To me real racism is to attack another person ( physically or verbaly ) purely because of the colour of their skin or their ethnic background with the intention of causing offence.
