Even though I get the family shop at Tesco, I often pop into Aldi for a few essentials (fruit + Veg, bread, milk ect) But whenever I talk to my chums at work, they take the piss and laugh at me for buying Aldi stuff. And my.missus refuses to cut back on brands like Heinz sauces and other bits and bobs and won't get supermarket brands, when I'm quite happy to.
What do you guys think? Do you stick to the big chain supermarkets or do you do the Lidel's of this world? do you stick to brands or are you quite happy do supermarket own. Even doing clothes shopping, do you always buy designer or is Primark your thing?

On a whole i would say yes, but there are a few items that i buy that are the 'budget' range simply because i think that they taste better.

I saw 5 police cars outside Lidl in Worthing to deal with one Bolshy shoplifter who security had pinned down last week. Their stuff must be pretty expensive I thought.

I don't have a car where I live, so have to walk to and from my nearest supermarket. Aldi often doesn't have a great selection of food, M&S is too expensive and has a poor choice as well, Morrison's is a 60 minute walk away. I get fruit, veg and meat from my local market, and other bits and bobs from wherever I can get them - but I do tend to choose branded products over supermarket labels.

Heinz baked beans are shite compared to Tesco's own brand, Heinz is just FULL of tomato soup rather than actual beans, complete opposite to Tesco's full of beans!

Just putting it out there.

Do you work with a bunch of 13 year olds?? Jesus how pathetic.

We shop in Sainsburys and Aldi. The veg in Aldi is far more superior and it doesn't go mouldy as quick as Sainsburys or Tesco.

The bread is no difference(produced by the same company that produces kinsgmill) and the tinned tuna is also produced by the same company that produce it for all the major shops.

The milk is far cheaper and there's no difference.

The wine is BETTER than some of the other supermarkets which is why some of the wine they stock have won awards.

Aldi's salad, cold meats and cheese are far better than what you would get in Tesco or Asda....try their bratwurst on a BBQ!

The most important thing is that we save around £1500 a year with Aldi compared to the other big shops and at the end of the

The only brand names we buy are for things like coffee, tea, marmite and washing / cleaning products. Other than that, all food ends up in the same place...a baked bean taste no difference whether it says Heinz, Tesco or Aldi on the tin!

Aldi & Lidls are considered to be good supermarkets in Germany. There is some good stuff to be bought there.

My wife buys Branston baked beans simply because I like the taste rather than Heinz in the main she wont buy blue and white Tesco goods but buys Aldi and LIDL goods. I don t like Morrisons fresh meat or veg as it doesn't last more than about 24 hours before it starts going funny so unless we are buying today for use today wont buy it.

She buys M & S bread 80p for a large loaf and it keeps well as we dont use a lot of bread.

Your right it is pathetic, but most of them think I'm cheapskate or somehow common for shopping at Aldi.
I quite liked a routine by Shaun Lock when he was describing the delights of shopping at Aldi and how, because of all the continental produce it was like going to a mini mart on Holiday. And you've often not heard of the stuff on sale there "ooo wasp's cooked in their own business, I'll try that"

Shop in Aldi when I can since it isn't that convenient but there is absolutely nothing wrong with their stuff.

Avoid the meat though. Only because I don't tend to buy frozen. Had some nice free range chickens from there but they always sell out.

Odd bargains in there. Nuts, beer and I really like their serrano ham. It's cheap serrano ham, better for cooking than eating raw. But the same as other supermarkets generic serrano but much much cheaper. I heard about it because it won a taste test.

Their veg is really good too.

Don't drink much instant coffee but I do like to have it in. Always buy it from Aldi. They do a premium gold blend type jar and it's cheaper than anywhere else.

Anyone who won't go in there because of the perceived low quality needs their head testing.

Their wines have won awards. When I've had some it's usually where its come recommended from a review. I think they keep the cost down by actually bottling it over here ?

Also have some deal going with Shepherds Neame. You can pick up bottles of their bitter for a quid !
