So if we beat Marseilles by enough goals, do we move up to the Champions League?

Is that definite? Very helpful to know if so.

Yes it is, see below for how the draws and seeding work (this is from the wiki page for last seasons competition so it's written in past tense but the same format applies to this season as well)

In the knockout phase, teams played against each other over two legs on a home-and-away basis, except for the one-match final. The mechanism of the draws for each round was as follows:

  • In the draw for the knockout round play-offs, the eight group runners-up were seeded, and the eight Champions League group third-placed teams were unseeded. The seeded teams were drawn against the unseeded teams, with the seeded teams hosting the second leg. Teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.
  • In the draw for the round of 16, the eight group winners were seeded, and the eight winners of the knockout round play-offs were unseeded. Again, the seeded teams were drawn against the unseeded teams, with the seeded teams hosting the second leg. Teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.
  • In the draws for the quarter-finals onwards, there were no seedings, and teams from the same association could be drawn against each other. As the draws for the quarter-finals and semi-finals were held together before the quarter-finals were played, the identity of the quarter-final winners was not known at the time of the semi-final draw. A draw was also held to determine which semi-final winner would be designated as the "home" team for the final (for administrative purposes as it was played at a neutral venue).
I've also included the draw dates and leg dates for the knock out rounds.

That 93rd minute penalty for Marseille was a bloody nuisance
Oh! There's a surprise

So bored on the train from Frankfurt after cancelled flight back from Athens.

Bored on the train:

If finish 2nd.

Last 32:

Lens/Sevilla
Galatasary/CPN/Man u (if Man U come third then cant play with these 3)
Braga/Napoli/union Berlin (highly certain it’s Braga)
Salzburg/benfica (benfica have to win 3-0 away)
Feyenoord
Milan/psg (can’t play Newcastle)
Young boys/red star (almost certain young boys)
Shaktar/Porto

Then our last 16 our opponents can only be on of the below (small chance of teams changing but looks unlikely):

1. Betis
2. Atalanta (low chance of sporting)
3. Rennes
4. Slavia Prague
5. Leverkusen
6. Freiburg if West Ham lose

If come first,

Last 16 directly:

One of the opponent from last 32 above, or Freiburg, Betis/rangers/Sparta Prague, sporting (low chance of Atalanta), Toulouse/USG, villareal/Rennes, Roma/slavia Prague, qarabag/molde.

In short, could be playing anyone :D but last 32 opponents do not look too bad unless it’s Milan or psg. This would come with a problem of having a 1 in 5 chance of playing Leverkusen in last 16 which would be good bye to us.
