Sunderland finished fourth bottom in 2016 with 39 points. We'd need to get four from Arsenal away and City at home to equal them. In the season before that Sunderland and Villa had 38. The season after Watford were fourth bottom with 40. Our realistic, best hope points total is 36 which would equal Southampton last season.

West Ham had 35 points in 2009/10, Wigan had 36 that year too. If you mean the fewest "points" and not objectively the "worst".

No. How quickly people forget that a certain team from up the road were the worst team in the top 4 divisions for an entire calendar year, but somehow still avoided relegation.

People have survived with 35 points (or less) in the past - WBA (34) - Hull - West Ham

I know it's not over yet, and finishing safe with 2 games to spare is far less stressful than many seasons either in the PL for others, or for us in the past, but has there been a shitter team than us that has stayed up? We have been ****ing dire virtually all season, with only 2 memorable performances and one more away result of note. The rest has been anything between lucky and woeful.

Give it a rest! A '****ing dire' team doesn't accumulate 35 points (with two games to play) in their second ever season in the Premier League.

The second half of the season had been pretty dire, yes, but we're pretty much where I expected us to be.

The longer you survive in the PL the better your chances are of not getting relegated - particularly if you survive the second season.

Norwich and Sheff Utd will be favourites to get relegated next season - and whoever wins the play-offs. If Villa get promoted they probably have the best chance of the promoted teams of staying up - they have Grealish.

At some point I'd like to sit with a spreadsheet and the points, goals for, goals attempted and shots on target and work it out. However, a) you're right, today is probably not the day and b) I bet one of Bloom's minions already has WAY more data than that!

I guess it's been a season of two halves. The first half we genuinely exceeded expectations. The second - Palace away apart where we were still awful at times but rode our luck (and I think they suit our current style) - was beyond terrible and would have relegated better sides in other seasons.

But, hey. I am now enjoying Newcastle v Liverpool (when I'm not typing away) and tomorrow evening will be an angst free watch with snacks and celebratory wine. It's been a cracking weekend.

This. On the day we know that we have got another season in the Premier League ( the League that we strived so hard to get into), we should be rejoicing. Instead, all I can see is pessimism and abuse for the manager who kept us up.

We have survived which means we now have a chance to recover, regroup and bring in the striker that we should have done last summer.

The only real disappointment this season has been the behaviour of some of our own fans once things started to go wrong. It's natural to be disappointed and worried but the level of vitriol and abuse being hurled at our own players when it was clear their confidence was shot (against Bmuff & Cardiff) was a real disgrace.

We got away with it this year. Chris needs some better players at his disposal (not from the Dutch league) and we can grow next year and beyond.

We need to stick together.

Sorry mate when the team gives up like it did against Bournemouth, it deserves all the abuse it gets
