Just asking, I don't think we will personally.

Im with you, i dont think we will, but I would love to see a new Centre Back in by Saturday, I just worry that if Greer gets injured this week in training (or sent off like last year on Saturday) we are left with Cook and Dunk and although very talented, i would be very worried. The rest of the squad I am very happy with.

I'm sure Gus was planning on having at least 2 new players in before the first league game, but it's certainly looking less likely now.

Waiting for those Premier League squads to be finalised now I would think before we look at who is available.

Why, has there been any indication that we won't be signing any players this week? i understand the worry over a CB but for me it is only mild concern

I think we are fairly strong in all positions except CB where we need cover. The last couple of friendlies have shown that we need to tighten up a bit at the back, but I'm sure Gus has everything in hand.

A couple more by the end of August but not this week I reckon.

I still think we are 4 players short of where we need to be but if we bring in another player before the weekend then I would say centre back is the most important position to get some more cover. From what little I've seen on Dunk he looks good but as allready pointed out if we lose Greer for any reason it leaves us very inexperienced and short of cover at the back.

i'd want a keeper, a decent CB happy to bench warm once El Abd and Elphick are back (who should be good enough), a midfielder with some attitude for thos tough away games (not barton) and a striker with hieght. and a pony.

not really any different to last week, so i dont expect we'll see anything as Gus probably thinks he doesnt need any additions.

So, do we not now need a striker?

Edit: Sorry, beorhthelm - didn't see your comment

IMHO ideally to finish our squad we need:

1. CB / defender
2. Keeper
3. Midfield hardman (or possibly a playmaker)
4. Striker (tall!)

Maybe a couple of loan deals so we don't overload the squad and budget? We could look a little thin at the back if as suggested Greer gets injured / suspended (this will happen at some point, preferably not before El Abd and Elphick are fit). I am very hopeful that Dunk will do a good job. Vincelot is a utility defender but could he stand in as a Championship level centre back?

Our defence would benefit from having a strong and commanding keeper who is not going to make silly mistakes. Confidence breeds confidence. I liked the suggestion on here about Cudicini but suspect we would not want to pay his wages. However spending a bit more on an experienced and safe keeper would be a good investment.

I am mindful that we already have loads of midfield options but still think we need the hard man plus still have a question about who will be the playmaker for the defence splitting pass to CMS / Hoskins / Barnes.

Finally whilst we will mainly play the ball on the floor I feel we need the option of height up front to get on the end of the barrage of crosses from our speedsters. Not sure that Bergkamp is ready for that just yet.

Assembling a big squad gives competition for places and resilience against injuries and suspensions but the downside is the reduction in subs. However it will be the same for all other clubs. I do feel for those such as Caskey who won't even get on the bench. That's when Gus's managerial skills will come to the fore. On the other hand our developmental squad will be a handy in their own right and quite tasty to watch.

I hope we do. Would be nice to talk about something apart from pies and parking. In the meantime, here you go beorhthelm.

Looks like Hoskins is out for Saturday,Lets hope CMS dosn't get injured early on as it would only leave Barnes.

i dont think we will sign anyone this week think gus will be focusing fully on the game against doncaster to get us off with a good start, but when we do make a move i would hope to see 3 new faces

1. a centre back as we have 2 really talented young ones but if all our main ones get injured i think we could see a few big mess ups so a cb i feel is needed
2. a goalkeeper to challenge ankergren as i dont think brez has got what it takes and maybe poke as 3rd choice still
3. a centre midfield as i feel we could do with some more back up in the middle of the field

I think our attacking force up front and at the wings are unreal and need no improvement at all

I think we will see a couple of new faces before the close of the transfer window, but not this week. It is difficult because the '5 subs' rule has completely changed what we need. I think we must now focus on decent back-up players that can play in more than one position.

I don't think we will sign a central defender pernamently, but wouldn't be surprised if one comes in on a half-season loan. We already have Greer, El Abd, Elphick, Dunk, Cook and the other youngster (forgotten his name) all of whom are centre backs by trade, although El Abd and Cook have been known to play elsewhere. I would guess that Elphick or maybe even El Abd will be off if we sign another central defender - even Gus has to balance the books.
