Are we honestly looking forward under Mickey Adams??

Don’t get me wrong, I am an Adams fan, also a Wilkins fan, but it it seems the reason Wilkins was told to step down, was because we wanted to take the club forward going into the new stadium.

So to do this we have:
- appointed a manager we let go 7 years ago.
- signed an injury struck centre back and a disruptive midfielder
- transfer targets seem to be players we used last season (Richards, Racon, Westlake) and players who left 2/3 years ago (Currie, Virgo)
- maybe selling our player of the season?
- released 5 players from the youth squad
- released 5 players from the fringes of the first team
- retained 2 players which can make an impact (Kuipers, El Abd)
- retained some players that may not feature this season (Loft, Chamberlain, Gargan, Fogden)
- given pro contracts to players that may not feature under Adams (Wills, Kane, Royce, Pearson)
- lost a great coach and his right hand man (Wilkins and Chapman)
- lost our commercial manager
- not reduced ticket prices
- released 3 new kits
- lost our shirt sponsorship deal and looking for a new one

I will get my season ticket, and going into my 21st season watching the Albion and I am looking forward to a summer of rumours and transfer activity in and out of the club, but it just doesn’t seem to me that we are totally looking forward, and trying to reminise on past glories, and assuming it will just happen again??

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
The return of a Championship winning manager and throwing money about seems orchestrated to get the fans back regularly. Not in the sense of building a winning team, but a return of the feel-good factor.

Were season ticket sales down again, I wonder?

So to do this we have:
- appointed a manager we let go 7 years ago. We didn't really let him go, he wanted to leave for a bigger club. It's not like we asked him to move on.
- signed an injury struck centre back and a disruptive midfielder We did similar with Cullip and that worked at the time. We need to give these players a chance!
- transfer targets seem to be players we used last season (Richards, Racon, Westlake) and players who left 2/3 years ago (Currie, Virgo)Richards and Racon are all players from higher up the leagues so they would be a step forward, Westlake looks decent so nothing wrong with bringing him in either. Not so sure how much Currie has to offer now, or where Virgo would play but I certainly wouldn't be upset to see Virgo back.
- maybe selling our player of the season?Maybe. As with the transfer targets we don't know for sure.
- released 5 players from the youth squad5 that weren't good enough to make the first team
- released 5 players from the fringes of the first teamA couple of which weren't ever going to make it, a couple of them maybe should have been retained, but this wasn't Adams decision.
- retained 2 players which can make an impact (Kuipers, El Abd)A good thing then!
- retained some players that may not feature this season (Loft, Chamberlain, Gargan, Fogden)They all featured last season so may do again this season. I expect Loft will at least.
- given pro contracts to players that may not feature under Adams (Wills, Kane, Royce, Pearson)Again, not sure if this was Adams decision, but we'll need to wait and see how they turn out.
- lost a great coach and his right hand man (Wilkins and Chapman)Only lost his right hand man at the moment, unless I've missed something.
- lost our commercial managerCould be a great opportunity considering the whinging on here at times about that area of the club
- not reduced ticket pricesDoes that surprise you? I mean honestly? They haven't put them up either, which would really be taking the piss.
- released 3 new kitsAll the kits were due to be updated.
- lost our shirt sponsorship deal and looking for a new oneSkint decided that it had ran long enough. What exactly were the club supposed to do? How does this have anything to do with Adams.

Of course with Adams coming back there is an element of people thinking that because he did a great job last time he will do so again. Surely that raising of optimism must be a good thing. I'm really looking forward to the new season, something that I really couldn't say this time last year.

I agree with pretty much all of that Dan, I didnt type in what I thought too, as it leaves it more open for discussion. I didnt put the list down as a bad thing at all.

The players like Richards, Westlake, Racon are from a higher level, but they were all part of a squad that finished 10 points outside the play offs. I would be very happy if we signed them all though

Fair enough, there's so much moaning goes on here that I thought you were just getting the first whinge of the day in!

I know what you mean, but then you have to consider that Racon and Westlake didn't join us until later in the season, and we went on a great run with them, and Murray, in the side. I'd be happy with all of them.

Ridiculous.

Disruptive midfielder? You mean a player who went out on a drinking bender and got disciplined. Hardly disruptive in comparison to the likes of Knight, who served us well.

We've signed a defender who's played a LOT of football but had one big injury. Didn't effect, say, Van Nistelrooy, did it?

Transfer targets as last seasons loan players? Well, Adams said he'd have a look at them, but it doesn't appear to have gone any further. We're probably NOT signing Westlake given that we've signed Mccleod, Racon has always been financially out of our league, and nobody has heard anything about Richards. However, if he was to sign, would it be a BACKWARD thing? He's a solid left back and we need one badly. Signing Virgo/might be going backwards in time, but they'd defenitely see progress in squad development.

The contract decisions were made by Wilkins, not Adams. Having a clear out so the new manager can bring in new fresh faces? Not sure how that can be considered a step backwards either!

We've appointed a great manager, superior to Wilkins.

How are we looking backwards by releasing three new kits? By Skint pulling out of the sponsorship? New shirts, new sponsor = increased revenue.

Kevin Keehan leaving - hardly anything we could do about that was there?! But is the club really that brilliant commercially. Surely he can be replaced comfortably.

I think you can't get over Wilkins leaving, because of one speech he made to the fans at Chesterfield which left him forever in your heart.....

In answer to your thread title. We are more so than if we had Wilkins as manager.

As ive said in my other posts, the list is just stuff thats happened, I never said if it was a good thing or bad thing - I just thought it would be intresting to see what people think, as people want to move forward but are happy doing that with people we have used before, and not new blood

I believe that we need more players to get out of this league, as the spine of the team as it stands is on the weaker side. If we signed anyone with the calibre of Richards, Westlake, Racon etc we are in for a great season :)
